All of us may remember the first time we saw the quality of blu-ray at your local retail store, friends house, own house, etc. Describe your reaction when you first saw it. Don't bash me if you think this is stupid thread because it's just a thread.

The exact words are un-postable, as I'd like to keep my Blu-ray.com forum membership, but the syllabic consonation was very similar to "holy smit!" (in a good way) I was, and am, blown away Blu-ray. I know many people say that audio is Blu-ray's best attribute, but for me the video does it every time.

I used to think that only movies filmed with High Definition cameras and\or equipment could be seen in HD.
Therefore, I kept thinking to myself there is not a very good selection of HD movies to date. That all changed when I saw my first High Def Demo. It was the 1962 movie "Lawrence of Arabia" DAMM! It was especially impressive during the split screen version .... 1/2 the screen in Hd and 1/2 the screen in DVD. WOW! I haven't looked back since. |

My first BD was I am Legend about a year ago. I remember sitting about 4 feet from the TV and just staring in amazinment as will smith is driving thru the abandoned city in the Supercharged Mustang. I then decided that every movie I owned needed to be on Blu-Ray instead and I have been broke ever since.

I'm a pretty calm person, and can control my reactions, so I don't think I actually said anything when I first saw Blu-ray, but I do remember being impressed by some opening trailer I saw, that was explaining BD, and showed a comparison of some blimp/airship things on DVD (they were CGI, but I don't know if the movie was a CGI movie or just that scene), and then they showed how it'd look on BD and I remember everything being much more detailed.
In the 3 years or so since, there have been times when I was equally unimpressed with BD, and have since formed the opinion that not everything needs to be released on BD because then the crappier stuff will take away from the great looking stuff, and convince people that maybe it's not all it's hyped up to be. If every release was a 4 or 5 star picture quality, it'd be great. But sadly we get some stuff that looks like a DVD, and if that's the first BD that some people see, their first impression will be a bad one. |
