Default Blu-ray titles in stores

I have been to blockbuster, circuit city, only two places I know that carry blu-ray disc in Dallas and they are not stocking new titles. They said they won't carry Rio Bravo which was released last week.

Is there a reason why they are not carrying titles?

I really miss tower records or somewhere you could go to find a wide variety of music and movies that is in a store and not ordered over the internet.

Most stores won't have any in stock because the demand isn't there yet. You go to a CC in my area and ask a sales kid for a blu-ray movie and and a usual reaction is a blank stare followed by "dude, we have the new Fall out Boy CD".

I don't know if this is true in anyone else's area, but it seems like the richer areas have better BD selections.

The CC in my area has blu ray and hddvd as does the BB.

At this time the hddvd sections seem to be larger, although the blu ray section at local BB has gotten larger every month since last March and has quickly closed the gap there. I have not been to CC in a while but can tell you they only had a stand with blu rays on each side comapred to the section that was allotted to hddvd.

The local walmart has a single blu rau locked away with the ps3 games and has no hddvds.

No one I talked to at these stores knew or were not willing to speculate what the future might hold in my area for these formats.

In my area the last person I would ask about Blu-ray marketing strategies is a kid working at walmart.

I went to get Basic Instinct on BR and was told by BB that they were not even stocking it and that the nearest store that had it was 50 miles away. Next went to Target and was very disappointed to see that the sections alotted for BR and HDDUD were a 4 by 5 area with half of that taken up by an advertisement for the formats and both were nearly empty. I'm not going to waste my time with BB and CC just doing Amazon for now.

I noticed today that my walmart now has 3 blu rays locked away with the ps3 games.

Still no hddvd.

Went to the Walmart in North Vancouver today. For the longest time, HDDVD and blu-ray has equal shelf space, now the swing to blu-ray is obvious. 4 racks for blu-rays and 2 HDDVD. The 2 shelve of HDDVD wasn't even full....I guess they may not be re-stocking.

Depends largely on the market. My market gets ok Blu-Ray saturation, and we're < 100k. We're a Base and University town though, so tech sells good here .

However, bit pissed that Hellboy was deemed a Special order only title. Going to keel.

I have heard a rumor that there will be a press announcement next week announcing the Blockbuster will begin carrying Blu-ray in all of its stores. They will continue to handle HD-DVD, but only in the top 200 stores.

If you're in the Dallas area, go check out Fry's Electronics. They have a huge number of Bluray titles and a very sparse number of HD-DVD titles. But you'll find at least 3 to 4 times the number of Bluray titles versus Best Buy or Circuit City.

Default I usually order from Amazon or Overstock

Overstock doesn't carry a lot of Blu-ray discs and many times they don't list new ones until after they are released and only the BIG sellers. They don't even list Hellboy. The Blockbusters in my area don't carry either Blu-ray or HD-DVD. Best Buy has been more expensive than Target, but Target only carries a limited number of discs, usually the newly released "new" movies and not catalog titles. Just this morning I checked and they had Ghost Rider, Norbit and The Messengers. Seems like they are getting more new Blu-ray than HD-DVD. Suncoast is kind of starting to dry up around here, kind of like the music stores. There is only one Suncoast left where I live the other two closed recently which included the mall that was nearest me. I would never go there anyway since ALL their discs pretty much sell at retail without any discount. So, I would just say if you know you are going to want a title, pre-order it. You could also try DVDplanet.com. I have had good experiences ordering from them too. I used to get my DVDs the day BEFORE they were released, but I am not sure it is like that anymore.

I am from Madison, Alabama.
Wal-mart in Madison (only 1 title, last time I saw last week, Ghost Riders BD, locked in ps3 selection and price at 29.99)
GameStop in Madison, have few selections of BD.

Best Buy in Huntsville have most titles on both formats, not all are available. But price for Omen or Courage under Fire is $34.99.

MovieStop in Huntsville have more titles on both formats but larger selections of BD, while their price are slight higher, only two BD are at correct price as Amazon are Scooby-Doo and Vertical Limit at 19.99. In past, most of selection, it were cheaper but no longer cheaper, the price rose.
Omen or Courage Under Fire is $32.99.

Targets in Huntsville have fewest selection, 7 or less on both formats, very limit, and price are not same as amazon.com.

Suncoast, in Huntsville, Madison Square Mall, I never buy any BD or HD DVD because they run full MRSP, but not ton of selections on both formats as Best Buy and MovieStop offers.

Circuit City offer BD and HD DVD very limit selection, about 20 to 40 titles each. Not Large as MovieStop and Best Buy.

Most prefer purchase place for me are:
1. Amazon
2. MovieStop (2 dallor to 3 dallor cheap than Best Buy)
3. Best Buy

These are most selections of BD you can find in area of Huntsville, Alabama.

Best Buy have:
Courage Under Fire
Silent Hill
Under Siege
Pirates of the Caribbean
Young Guns
Basic Intsincts, and list go on.
But sometime, it not in stock. For example Planet of the Apes was only in stock at MovieStop while not in stock at Best Buy.

So, these are my primary shopping places, Amazon, Best Buy, and MovieStop.

Most of time I made purchases through Best Buy and MovieStop more than I made through Amazon. MovieStop was cheaper in Fall 2006 to March 30 2007, then after that, price rose, and I haven't brought a lot from MovieStop, but still brought some from Best Buy, and will made some prucahses from these three places: Amazon, Best Buy, and MovieStops.

It is not big issues for me because about 85% to 90% titles are available. Expect HDnet, etc.

In Dallas, Fry's store in Plano and Irving carries a lot of Blu-Ray titles and they are by far cheaper than Best Buy and Circuit City. I uaually shop at the one off Plano Parkway and 75, once in a while I goes to the one in Irving off 635 pass McArthur. Try them, they are great!
