Default Poison Ivy/Oak - Are You Allergic?

I just got done playing in poison ivy and oak. It was growing all over the fence and in an area where we had not mowed for a while. Used my hands without gloves like I usually do (stupid) and got blisters from my fingers rubbing against the fence.. Anyways, as usual - no issues or reactions to it.

Anyone else not allergic to it? My brothers get infected bad!

I'm allergic to it, but I just get a mild rash, no blisters or anything like that.

My cousing had blistered over all his exposed areas, sleeves and shins and face too when he fell into some while hiking. He looked like a burn victim. It was not plesant.

I have never had a the displeasure of running into poison ivy or poison oak, but there are a lot of other things I have allergic reactions to. A couple years ago, I was being careless while washing windows. I rubbed some sweat off my forehead and thought nothing of it. The next morning, I had a small read itchy spot. Throughout the day, it had gotten progressively larger and more raw looking. It even became swollen. The next day, which happened to be a Monday, I had to go back to work and it had spread to my hands. I guess the skin on my hands was less sensitive since it took longer for them to react. I had other spots on my face where I had touched, on my leg behind my knee, I must have had an itch there or something.
My boss was freaked out, as was everyone else in the office. I assured them I wasn't contagious. I ended up going to the doctor and got some, what he described as super Benadryl and some ointment that cost $75! The pills were only $10. It took three weeks for it to finally go away. I should have taken pictures, but I am glad that I didn't. I don't want to be reminded of it.

So, I wouldn't want to know what would happen if I ever ran into poison ivy or poison oak.

So what was the culprit - or did I miss it?

I could roll in the junk without a problem, I use to bury telephone cable for years and encountered that and fire ants everyday out in the country.

But I worked with some black brothers who could look at it and break out.

Lol. We dealt with fire ants in several states. OMG they are horrible. Worst than bees if you ask me!

Why's that? There's plenty of poison ivy across Lake Michigan. Some of the best I've been around was South Manitou Isl. in Lake Michigan. Also Whitey Cox campsite on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho is a great spot. I don't believe I'm sensitive; I've been around it many times without incident, but I won't rub it on myself on purpose, even if to be certain.
