Right now, I have sound coming solely from my TV (SamsungTX-R3079WH)
I'm not really capable of getting a Nice or Very Nice sound setup at this time, but I'm still looking at inexpensive solutions for the now[ ie, < 300$]. And at the same time, I need to be cautious about noise pollution because I'm in the second floor of an apartment complex [which has really been the big the deterrent in going for a 'Nice' system lately as well]. I was just wondering if it was actually worth it or not, or just wait till a Good solution is affordable. |

If sound pollution is a factor, I would go for a pair of Headphones. For 300 bucks you can get really nice cans.
Check out: - AKG - Sennheiser - Grado - Sony - ... but make sure you audition them. Preferences are miles apart (I didn't like some of those 'reference headphones' and went with something that got bad reviews). And lets face it: 300 $ won't buy you decent speakers. Sorry. |

Well, if you go the stereo route (no subwoofer because of the neighbours and no surround because of budget) you can probably get a pair of entry level B&Ws on ebay. That would be better than the speakers on your TV (and I say that without having heard your TV

surround sound makes a big difference compared to just tv speakers. $300 is pushing it. you may want to save a little more money. i just got an onkyo 7.1 system from curcuit city. i was looking for a system around $400 but this one was $500. i'm very glad i waited and saved th extra $100.

my advice is...don't go cheap on sound. I'm a very visual person, but I find that my impression of a movie and even picture quality is based to some degree on audio quality. The importance of sound and audio gear cannot be underestimated in home theater and unfortunately $300 is not going to get it done. My $.02
