My employers distribute Arrow - we've got no further info than what Pro-B has put up, but it looks like it'll probably be priced for retail around the £22.99 mark, so online retailer discounts should make this quite affordable.

Hugh,

Tell your employers to extend our warmest regards to Arrow and thank them on our behalf for bringing Tornatore's film to Blu-ray

Any word if this is the 2 hour cut or the extended cut? Or better still, both? Since Arrow was the first to release the 3 hour cut on DVD (I believe), I'm suspecting extended.

How dissapointing, after a long wait.

Aside from it only being the theatrical version, any comments on the picture and audio quality?

I don't have an issue with the theatrical version as such. I've always viewed the 2 versions as completely different films. Without getting into spoilers, the extended version, while adding some nice scenes, greatly changes the relationships and perceptions of key characters. I feel that it also somewhat changes the effect of several scenes in the theatrical version, not always for the better. If the PQ and AQ are good, I'll buy this one now, enjoy it and buy the extended later.

Can anyone comment on region-locked or region-free?

I'm with you. The extended version is soooooooo much better, more poignant more pathos, bittersweet and just a great film. Didn't know it was a HMV exclusive until I saw it instore today. Almost bought it then saw the running time on the back of the box - 118mins - that's a no-buy for me. Arrow please release the extended cut on Blu-ray in January!

I prefer the theatrical cut.

Yes, there are definitely times when editing can change relationships, and even the way we like characters or not.

In Independence Day, the theatrical version, the character of the military officer at the secret base (the one who shoots through the glass) comes off as a good guy. Viewing the extra footage of the longer version, he comes off as a bit of a jerk.

In Pretty Woman, we come to like the character of the hotel manager (played by Hector Elizondo), but when you listen to the commentary you find out editing was done...in the scene after she comes back from a great shopping trip and walks through the lobby in her white outfit, we see the manager admiring her and we like him because he has been nice to her, but in the commentary it was mentioned as he watched her walk through the lobby he said something like, "What a great ass."

In the case of Cinema Paradiso, I think the way the story was played out in two hours was just right.

I want the theatrical cut - the extended was just too bloated for me and changed the film for the worst. It totally changed the way I looked at things, and not in a good way.

I know it's getting asked to death, but is this going to be region free?

I agree totally. As you say, it has so much more pathos and meaning. No way am I buying a BD version unless I can get the extended version.

Talking Cinema Paradiso Uk- Out Now!!!

CINEMA PARADISO is an HMV.CO.UK exclusive since today for 14 pounds, and it's already shipping. I ordered mine 10 minutes ago and got an email now saying "it's on its way"!

NOW will it be region locked??? I'm taking that risk to find out by myself! I'll let you know as soon as I get it
