Default What kind of MEDIA do you buy?

I'm sure that most here buy other media besides the obvious Blu-ray discs for movies, documentaries and concerts. I personally buy the occasional DVD and CD, and most recently started to buy SACD. Collecting Vinyl LP's has been a passion of mine for over 40 years and I still buy them (new & used) with a great deal of vigor.

My media expenditures have risen dramtically in the last year or so. I seem to be buying about 1 BD per week and the return to prominance of vinyl has seen those purchases double in size. In fact, I think I have purchased (new & used) about 100 vinyl LP's in the last year. Having just taken the step into the world of SACD, I am now starting to buy releases in that format as well. I really need to cut down, but I can't help myself. I seem to have this insatiable appetite for new media!

How about you?

John

Same as Beta with more emphasis this year on vinyl. I only have a few SACDs and DVDA discs, but close to 1700 CDs. I tend to concentrate hard on one form of media for a period, then shift when it seems the well may be running dry for me.

Other than Blu-ray I buy the occasional TV show on DVD. I recently bought season 1 of Burn Notice, and if I like it I'll buy the second season on Blu-ray. I also have recently bought the first 2 seasons of Supernatural on DVD, and already have season 3 on Blu and season 4 pre-ordered. I really prefer watching TV shows on disc and often don't start watching a show until a couple seasons are out and I'll catch them that way. Currently doing that with Dexter, and then Mad Men will be my next show to watch.
Other than Blu-ray and DVD I don't buy any media though. I haven't bought a CD for a couple years because I'd rather buy individual songs on Itunes. I've never bought an LP, I don't even know how to use a record player

Occasionally on a Blu (no pun intended), I like to search out the rare movies that never made it past VHS. I'll buy DVDs, PS2 Games, and Blu-Ray.

I did the exact same thing with Supernatural Seasons 1-2. Bought the DVD set, but caught up in time for season 3. I have Season 3 on BD, but i'm a little weary of buying season 4, wasn't the biggest fan of season 4. =/

I'm doing the same with Dexter, 5 episodes into season 1 with season 2 on it's way via Futureshop. Definitely picking up Mad Men S2 next week, I'll probably end up watching S3 on cable tho

next project, battlestar galactica...i have never seen a single episode, the boxset is a pretty big commitment, but from what i hear it's a pretty darn good show.

I pretty much stick to Blu only. Every so often I will buy a DVD if it's a kid movie/show that isn't on Blu. The last DVD movie I bought for me was Beavis and Butthead Do America - special edition, which was a couple months ago. I got that for under $10 shipped brand new in package with slipcover. I doubt that's coming to Blu, so at that price it was just too good a bargain to pass up!

I WOULD buy DVD-A for my car audio needs, but they're still way too expensive. Plus when you consider that most of the music I like is classic stuff from LONG before the days of 5.1 -- and when 2.0 stereo was "the $hit" -- buying re-mastered old music that's been mixed into surround kind of makes it feel un-authentic...although the tech junkie in me likes it to a certain extent.
