Cool Finding Nemo HD broadcast

anyone catch finding nemo tonite on abc-HD? it looked good but i was hoping for better quality but at the same time i know not to expect too much when watching an HD channel compared to an actual blu-ray disc...is it just me or is there just a little bit of a loss on PQ when watching HD over the air compared to HD on a blu-ray disc? i love this flick and still waiting for it on blu-ray. c'mon disney/pixar, i want CARS too!

A little bit? Try a lot of bit. One, the audio is worse since it's the lowest bit rate you can get with Dolby Digital 5.1. And two, the low bit rate video causes those horrible artifacts, especially when stuff moves. Now I just watch Bridge To Terribithia, and THAT, is what HD is all about.

It is being broadcasted in 720p. Not bad. But, now any picture not 1080p looks primitive to me.

I haven't gotten HD cable yet. It is free, but you have to pay for the rental of the box that includes a DVR. I don't want to get a DVR mainly because I have this problem with watching things that I have recorded, meaning, I never get around to watching them. Plus, my cable company does not have ABC in their HI DEF lineup because the local station wants to charge them something like a million dollars a year to carry it. (not sure exactly but I think one is suing the other) Anyhow with you guys talking about the poor quality of the broadcasts, I really doubt I will get it. Right now my HDTV is for watching movies and video games Anyway, back to the OP. I would definitely get Finding Nemo on BD. I would even buy Cars, even though it was my least favorite Pixar movie.

Thumbs up I caught a little of it . . .

Yes, it looks nicer than the DVD, but not as good as the Blu-ray will.

A while back I saw one of the Pirates movies on ABC-HD. It did look nice and whet my appetite for the BD. But as others have noted, HDTV is inferior to Blu-ray. I have OTA HDTV (as opposed to cable or satellite). It can be a little better than the other 2 because it's not as compressed.

The POTC films on BD were way better than broadcast in both sound and picture.

Well, this showing of Nemo will just whet our appetites for the BD which will be sometime (hopefully shortly) in the future.
