Question am i getting the most out of my speakers?

the audio equipment i own is listed below...now i am VERY new with this audio stuff, so bear with me...

the specs for my receiver state it can output about 130watts per channel, and the power capability of my speakers are about 300watts each (for the towers)

does this mean i am not listening to my speakers at their peak performance/potential? or am i just way out of my element here?

any help or explanations would be greatly appreciated guys.

thanks

I think almost everyone can benefit from seperate amplification, I certainly think you would! Pioneer gave you pre-outs on that receiver for a reason!

The bottom 2 pieces of equipment on my stand are amplifiers . This is what the speakers are hooked to . the amps are hooked to the receivers pre-outs !! The sound you get from an amp is cleaner ~ clearer & better sounding than what you will get from just the receiver alone !

You have pre-outs on your receiver. You hook up a seperate external amplifier to those with rca cables to provide nice, clean, real dedicated power to your speakers. It is the shiz....

Hey fellas, getting to the "new" guys quick these days

For me, separates may have to be included in my "2010: Expected budget"

The real question (to me) is if you got more out of your speakers would you actually hear the difference ?

If you want the best you can get from you're speakers than you need to get into separates . An amplifier would make the world of difference !

Your system is fine. You have a very good system. If you are new to Audio/video, you don't need separate processors and amplifiers at this time. Enjoy your system and wait a few years. Eventually, you can upgrade in the future.

Damn guys, all he asked was is his speakers getting enough power from his receiver. before you all went crazy and started suggesting seperates, something he doesn't really know nothing about, you could've at least explained to him how watts work. like how in real world listening we never used all of the receivers rated watts. or how his receivers 130 watts decreases when using 5 speakers, and its really only outputting 80 to 100 watts a channel.

ok guys. ive done some research and im back with a few more questions

1) on the official polk site it says that the recommended amp power used with one floorstandıng speaker should be 20-300w per channel. so if i were to purchase a 5 channel amp with 200W/channel and bi amp my fronts...would i be at risk of damaging the speaker? because essentially i would be feeding it 400W, correct?

2) if i were to purchase the same 5 channel amp with 200W/channel. would it be best to amp each speaker in my 5.1 setup or to bi-amp the fronts and amp the center? or is this merely by preference on what sounds good?

thanks guys

Default Additional amp?

I've built most of my speakers and have been using the Rotel amplifiers in my system since 2003. My latest Rotel amp is the 5 channel x 200 watt RMB 1095. It is so heavy it has a roller under the bottom to help slide it back in place.

My receiver is NAD's flagship T-785 next generation receiver with rated power of 120 watts per channel x 7. I am using the NADs pre-outs for the 5 main channels being sent to the Rotel via RCA cabling, and am only using the center back channels for the 7.1 back B & W speakers.

You won't blow your speakers if you don't overdrive them or allow the amplifier to clip, meaning taking the amp to it's maximum power. With as much power as the Rotel amp has, I'm in good shape. Each of the stacked subwoofers has its own 1450 watt QSC amplifier all controlled by a German built Reckhorn B-1 equilizer.

I'm a firm believer in having more power than you need. You should be able to set your outputs in your receiver's setup menu.

Good luck,
Mike
