Default Opinions on a cheap sub?

Was curious to what you guys think of this?

I'm not really sure if it has any x-over controls or anything, would have to go look at it. Even if it doesn't have a x-over control, i should be able to control that via AVR anyway, right? The spec sheet is saying 100 Watts total (judging by the rest of the site), I'd guess the RMS would be around 50 or so. I'm a little concerned that it weighs 11lbs lighter than the psw10 (15 vs 26).

This thing would be paired with some RB-61's to use as my "Computer Speakers", and hopefully cure my need for a sub (for now ).

But for 60$ I don't really see a downside... Other than it could catch fire and burn my house down

I don't know anything on the manufacturer or that website, so I rely on the old saying...you get what you pay for...so buyer beware! It only gets down to 41Hz, so if your budget is soo tight that it must stay around or under $100, the Polk PSW10 might be a better choice IMO.

The website is actually for their stores, which are all over Canada. I've purchased from them before and would actually prefer them over Futureshop/Best Buy.

The only thing I found out about Vector Research is that they went bankrupt when their parent company did a few years ago. Apparently the company has been around since the 80's

I looked at Acoustic Audio a few days ago, drooling over their subs. Then was heartbroken when I found out they don't ship to Canada.

Thanks BD for the links. Any ideas on how much it would cost to ship the ES8? Wow, does that thing really weigh 42lbs?

As for The Speaker Company:

We only ship products to the United States (lower 48) at this time.

I don't know their shipping rates to Canada. Parts Express also sells their products on Amazon Marketplace. I have found the shipping to be cheaper when you order from Amazon. Perhaps, you can even find Dayton subwoofers on Amazon Canada.

After looking around a bit, I see that I would be paying more for shipping than the actual sub. I may go with the Vector sub just to tide me over till I move to the states next year. Then I would pretty much be free to go with any company I wanted. I'll try to go have a look/listen at it tomorrow or the next day. Brett is giving me ideas about a DIY project with the amp down the road.

Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated. I'll keep you posted on if I get it or not, and my thoughts on it.

Big Daddy, I don't believe you have this speaker manufacturer on your list.

I added Soundstage to the list. Thank you.

Could you raise your budget a bit? They have some really nice subs for a low price. You can get a nice 10" Acoustic Audio sub for $168 shipped. I've heard a lot of good things about them and they're recommended to others all the time here on this site.

Check out the Acoustic Audio thread

1. You can get that 10" Acoustic Audio subwoofer cheaper than $168on Ebay.
2. AA does not ship to Canada.

His best bet is with Parts Express. They ship to Canada.

Dayton Subwoofers:

The Speaker company is another option, but I don't know if they ship to Canada.

Ahh, thanks BD.

Quick question, how do any of these compare to the PSW10? I got my PSW10 on Black Friday for $100 and used it in my bedroom until I upgraded to my A2-300. It was great while I used it, just curious how much better these are than the Polk.

They have pretty powerful amplifiers and go down to 20Hz. This is something I tested and verified. I am sure PSW10 can do that.
