Canada Optiarc BR-5100S - XP freezes with Blu-Ray

I have Win XP Pro SP3

Just installed above drive.

It works fine with CD and DVD.

When I put a BD, the computer stops responding, the Win explorer can't resolve attached drives, can't switch from one program to another. The CPU is just at 3%.

I thought it might be the drive and verified with Ubuntu. No hangup. I can access the UDF files but since I did not install any software, don't know if it plays movie but I would say that the drive is alright.

What software or config could possibly make windows hang like that upon a BD insertion?????? Any help

From what I understand and any one here is welcome to correct me if I am indeed wrong is that XP not LINUX can play blu......or HD for that matter....IF you want to play blu in linux then the movies must be stored on your hdd if you want to go the way of windows start by upgrading to vista or windows 7. HTH

I do not intend to play BD movies in Linux, it's just the way I found to verify if the drive was defective or if it was software related. As Linux recognized DVE_BD (Digital Video Essentials) and was able to access the files (not play the content) without affecting Ubuntu performance, I assumed that the drive is not faulty.

I do not wish to update to Vista as XP does everything I need.

So my questions remains. How can inserting a BD disk can make windows to get slow and need a logout or even a computer reset?
