Just about all Panasonics including BD30 and newer as well as most new blu-ray players.
What ever you do, do NOT get a Samsung blu-ray player no matter how low the cost.

When you go over here: https://www.blu-ray.com/products/search.php?p=1
and you select Region-A, the two Bitstream options, and HDMI 7.1, you will get 44 different players to choose from.

Well, I feel stupid now. Looks like most players do. My old 40gig PS3 won't though. Thanks!

That's okay though, it will decode and send as 7.1 PCM, same thing.

Why do the sub and speakers volume die on LPCM?

Maybe you have the DRC turned on in the player. Or it could be downmixing. What player were you using where the volume died?

if you have a 7.1 system, plus the ps3 120...which unit would you rather use for the decoding...

I do not have the PS3 120 Slim. I have an older PS3 40gig. I read on another forum, that the old PS3's were designed to cut down the sub to not overload the LPCM connection to the AVR. So any time you use the LPCM, you need to turn up the volume AND turn the sub up 10dB. Then that means the level match may or may not be right. I also read that the bitstream on PS3 was not lossless audio. I read so much stuff, I don't know what to believe. So..... I just gave in and ordered a new Oppo 83. The reviews say it will do everything and has one of the best audio and video performances on the market, especially for its $500 price. I will give it a try!

That information is not correct. LFE is recorded 10dB below the proper playback level. That's part of the recording itself and has nothing to do with the PS3. Processors boost LFE the needed 10dB.

I am sure you are right. I think what you said was what he meant. I do see a difference in bass level switching from bitstream to LPCM using my PS3....and I am not saying that is unique to my PS3. I more suspect it has something to do with LPCM vs bitstream. I am FAR from an expert on this stuff and I am just trying to learn here as I go. I am giving up my OLD 40gig PS3 as a blu-ray player and waiting on my new Oppo to get here. I will keep the PS3 on my rack but as a game console only..... I think.... if the Oppo is what it is cracked up to be. Thanks for straightening me out.

When you watch the 'advanced content' (BD-Live / profile 2.0), you do not have an option, decoding in the player (and LPCM-out) is the only way to go with that, which is what the PS3 has been doing from the start. Quality differences between decoding in a common BD-player versus common AVR's is minimal and for most of us in-audible (presuming your settings and bass-management are correct), IMHO.
