Parents - avert your children’s eyes. It seems the co-founder of Vivid Entertainment wants Sony to allow HD adult movies on the PlayStation Network. In an interview with MCV, Steven Hirsch said he’d like Sony to allow pre-paid porn releases in other regions outside of Japan, because he believes the PS3 has “real potential” for the adult entertainment industry.
“As long as proper age verification is in place, there is no reason why consumers should not be allowed to view adult movies on any device that they desire,” he said. “It’s too early to say to what extent this could help our business, but it certainly has real potential.” In Japan, DDM.tv has launched an HD porn download service for the PS3, but the service is restricted to its home territory. “[DDM’s launch] is a good start. We hope that Sony will allow adult movies to be downloaded worldwide.” Neither Sony Computer Entertainment Europe nor America have received a formal request from Vivid about this service for the West. This is just a desperate attempt by traditional DVD-based porn producers to expand their evaporating market. Personally, I have no problem with porn on the PSN. However, like Netflix refusing to offer explict sexual content, I don't think Sony will go there. It's just too much of a liability. Besides, the content would probably just be the same boring crap already carried in hotel rooms and on PPV cable.

Meh, I think it's a horrible idea. It's bad enough that 90% of the "themes" for the PS3 are bikini models. It actually puts them even more in the 18 to 34 male demographic, and I know they don't want to be pigeonholed just there. For me, it means I have to be more careful when using my PS3 around my family.
I'm personally not interested in it at all and hope they don't do it. *edit* And those restriction codes suck- I know I don't want to enter a code every time I throw in an MA game or play a rated R movie. |

It would require better account management/admin tools on the PS3, for one thing: password-protected user accounts and 'admin' vs. 'user' level accounts whereby an admin could control, not only the playable content for all users, but the viewable content as well. Further, the PSN store would need to be redesigned to show only content that a particular admin on a particular PS3 has authorized.
I don't have a problem with the content being available on PSN, but I wonder if Sony is really willing to go there. Beyond the technical and marketability concerns, there are the obscenity laws of the federal government in addition to those in all the states to consider. And, all it would take it one overzealous state attorney to make the whole enterprise not worth the trouble. |

Just means another access point for a curious child to gain access to adult material.
Like mentioned many times over, if a kid is going to seek out this material it's not that hard. Even a public library can be abused to access that material. My opinion is if I'm concerned my kid is going to seek out this stuff then I need to be spending more time talking to her/him rather than spending time finding ways to block them from it. Sex sells, that's no secret. Although I do prefer it not shoved in front of my face everywhere I look, it's bad enough already. |

It will be difficult to keep away from children - but hell, kids can get access to almost anything they want through the internet via PS3 web browser if they really wanted to, and play extremely violent/adult games as it is.
I really don't see the PS3 as a "children's" machine. If parents can password protect access, etc. - I really don't care if Sony adds it. |

![]() This is a BAD idea. You don't make pron available on a "kid's toy", regardless of how many adults may be using it. |

My cable box has an "Adult" category in its OnDemand menu (not that I use OnDemand). All Sony needs to do is add this section and not advertise it. Those who want its content will find it on their own, and others won't even bat an eye that it's there.
