Default PS3 Extended Warranty? Yes or No?

What is the general opinion on these for a PS3? Which retailer has the best deal? Thanks

I got mine at circuit city and bought the 2yr extended plan just for the piece of mind since the ps3 has so much technology packed into it. I got the plan for only $80 (employee price) but I think it's only like $120 for regular customers. We also offer an accidental damage plan too in case u drop kick it across the room u can still get it replaced!!! lol... i believe the accidental damage plan is like $180 for 2yrs.

Best Buy's 2 year replacement plan is $100 if I remember, and that was before the price drop so it might be cheaper. With that you walk in and get a new one if yours breaks. It doesn't cover physical damage, but it's not like you carry it around with you and are dropping it. I got it . . . I know I sound old, but I'm not, I'm 26, but things don't seem to be made the way they used to. My NES still works, while I'm on my third Xbox 360 and second PS2.

^ And I was told by two different employees that the BB replacement plan is renewable after the first two years. I'll definitely renew when that time comes.

I would not buy one if I where you, save your money and get some games, controllers, or movies.

The PS3 has a reported less than 1% failure rate, not worth the $60-$110 additonal bucks if you ask me. Also the warranty it comes with will more than cover that 1%.

Now if you where getting a 360 with 33% failure rate, than by all means by the warranty.

DezNutz ... I'm with you. I didn't purchase protection plan... used the money for extras! I know some people want the extra "peace of mind" so I respect that, but I'm not putting extra money in Best Buy's pocket.

I was about to mention the same thing, the PS3 is very reliable. I did not buy the warranty and am not nervous at all, I even stand my PS3 vertically (gasp!!!). But if you need peace of mind, I can understand.

Nope, MS just extended their manufactured warranty for three years. No need for the replacement plan with them.

I agree. Extended warranties are only out there to make the store more money - rule of thumb for electronics is, if it doesnt break within the first year, it will probably last a long time.

I purchased the extended warranty from Best Buy, mainly because they mentioned at check out "Look what happened with the Xbox 360". If I was buying it now rather than last December, I'm not sure if I still would purchase it. I think I probably still would. I tend to follow the reasoning that it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Actually, I just did a little research on Sonystyle.com regarding Sony's extended service plans, and price-wise they seem unbeatable. Just check out this link:

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...151&langId=-1#

Just click on "PRICING" on the above listed webpage.

When you look at the link above, just go to the price range of the PS3 and it'll give you options for 2, 3 or 4 years. There are even options for accidental damage as well. The most expensive plan (including accidental damage protection) is the 4 year one at $119.99. That's a great price in my opinion.

You should definitely get a service plan or a replacement plan. My first PS3 kept locking up. This is the first generation and no one knows what will happen down the line. They are not that expensive.

If mine breaks, I take it to Best Buy and they hand me a new one. Nice!
