This thread is dedicated to asking questions of industry insider Kevin (Eureka Entertainment) who has graciously taken the time to participate here. Kevin and all our insiders do this out of their free time and to try to keep us informed to their best abilities, and therefore are to be treated with respect and courtesy.

Using the search function is also always a good idea. Please conduct your inquiries in a professional manner and avoid asking "chicken little" questions or asking when unannounced titles will come out.

Hey Kevin, just wanted to let you know that I love Masters of Cinema series. If the restoration of "Metropolis" is completed in January, can we hope for the Blu-ray in Q3?

Hi Guys and Girls,

My names Kevin and I work for those lovely folk Eureka Entertainment, we are an independent distributor of classic silent/early films in the UK.

Any questions about our releases or Blu-ray in general I'll happily answer as best I can.

Thanks.

Metropolis is going to be a big one, we'll know more as soon as the restoration is done, fingers are firmly crossed for a 2010 at Eureka towers. As soon as we know any more I'll let you know.

Considering the serious problems being reported with one of the films in the DEFA sci-fi set, and the bad feelings Eureka are unsurprisingly getting as a result of it, don't you think it's time that Eureka pulled their finger out and actually offered a replacement programme for this particular release?
Saying it's not financially viable just doesn't cut it as an excuse in this case. People were trusting of Eureka and put down good money for this, and it's out of order to leave them with such a sub-standard product. If it wasn't done right then it's on you and you should fix it. It isn't helping Eureka's reputation to just ditch people like this.

Sadly Eureka have a track record of not issuing replacement discs and where they have fixed errors, they have just done it in new pressings and ignored all their customers who bought the disc with the error. It does reflect badly on the company, no two ways about it. Why should I have to buy Mothra and The Bride With White Hair again just to not have immersion-wrecking subtitle errors?

I wasn't aware of the subtitles problems on Mothra. Glad I didn't get that one now.
I still watch my HKLegends DVD of Zu Warriors From The Magic Mountain, as the ones on their BD are so bad. Grammatically unintuitive, and too long-winded, requiring a speed-read or pause at numerous points in the film. It's appalling, they just don't care.

Eureka's attitude towards customers is appalling, especially considering that their discs are becoming increasingly worse of late.

I would have really liked the Defa sci-fi set and Heart of Stone, but there's no way at all that I'm touching them like this, and I'll never pre-order a Eureka again. Where possible, I'll give my money to another company who release the same title; it'll probably be a better edition, and I'm not happy with giving money to an outfit who treat me with contempt.

I would love to have the classic films that Eureka has released (Double Indemnity, Lifeboat, The Lost Weekend, etc) But, they are Region B locked. Can you...could you please make it so the fans in the US can enjoy these as well?....without having to have a Region Free player? Thank you.

Eureka has been pretty vocal about releasing their Blu-rays region free. When they're not doing it, they're not allowed to by the studios Eureka licenses the titles from.

Has there been any interest, or a possibility of a release of "The Human Condition"? I know Criterion released it here in the U.S. on DVD, and I believe it was said that the elements couldn't warrant an HD/Blu-ray release? Since you knocked Harakiri out of the park, it seemed only fitting to return to Kobayashi at some point.

Hiya Kevin mate,

I just wondered if the good boys and girls over at MoC/Eureka have any plans to release John Fawcett's Ginger Snaps in the near future? Is it a possible release for the company or is it highly unlikely?

Thanks in advance, mate.

This thread is interesting. Anyway...

Ginger Snaps was released by Second Sight.

Interesting... not! It began in 2009 and now being bumped today after eleven posts? So where's Kevin?

When I first saw this for the first time today, it looked great until I saw the date of the first post.

My question concerns a little-seen French film from 1971, Le Chat, starring the incomparable Simone Signoret. To the best of my knowledge, this film has never been given a proper Region "A" release, with English subtitles.

Is this something the "Masters of Cinema" line might be interested in exploring, at some point...?
I don't know if Kevin is around anymore due to the timeframes of this thread.

I randomly saw this and got excited. Only to see that someone had responded to an age old thread. I just merely saw the Ginger Snaps comment and remembered that Second Sight released it on BD most recently for the UK.

Old thread or not, Le Chat definitely deserves a proper release. Would love to see it get the attention it deserves — Signoret is fantastic in it.

If you could invite any director from the past to work on a modern project with Eureka, who would you choose and which film would you suggest they remake or reimagine?

Guys.... the last Eureka response was from 2009. That's 15 (fifteen) years ago. I don't think they are coming back.
