When you select "normal" difficulty and it starts out nice and easy...some challenging parts here and there...some frustration due to having to restart from the last checkpoint every now and then...which is fine...then all of a sudden the game starts getting harder and harder making you wonder if the game somehow switched to the "it will take you the rest of your life to beat this" difficulty level???
Virgin gamer nerds may have 23 and a half energy drink induced gaming hours per day, but I don't have that kind of time to dedicate to beating a game. I like my games, but I also do have a life. |

Unskippable cut scenes!
![]() I like games having a challenge and I really don't mind dieing and having to go back through a level. But when I keep dying and then forced to watch a lame cut scene again and again... ![]() The most recent that comes to mind is the final boss in Dead Space. I keep dying and then getting forced to watch the boss' 3 minute long intro scene! What the hell?! I've seen it already let me skip it! What's most frustrating about this is that the developers could have so easily included a "skip" function in the code, but for some reason didn't. |

Which brings me to my next gripe. So technology is better? What is with the A.I. in almost every military type game now. You shoot one guy, take Battlefield Bad Company. You get on top of the mountain with the radio tower with a sniper rifle and you are miles away from the base at the foot of the mountain. You take one shot and the entire base knows immediately where to shoot within a second of shooting. I find that most games are like this. A more recent example, Uncharted 2. You are in cover, nobody can see you, and you toss a grenade. Surprise, they all know where you're hiding now. I'm finding this funny about Demon's Souls. When you start playing it seems so difficult. While most of the bosses are a piece of cake that can be killed safely from a distance with arrows. My last gripe, I dislike games that claim they are something, when it is the furthest thing from the truth. |

The problem with the majority of games this generation is that they haven't really moved forward from the previous gen. I feel as though I've played the same game from last time. Although there are some exceptions:
Red Faction Guerella: This game essentally centres around real time destruction. In the last gen, this sort of thing could be done, but it was very limited. Now with new technology, there have been major improvements, combined with a great physics engine. This kind of thing can only get better with the next generation. Crysis: This is in a way, similar to RFG in destruction, but adds to it lifelike graphics in an open world. This sort of thing is very difficult to pull of with in a single engine. I'm hoping that I'm explaining this right. |

I think content that should have been given with the game at launch and not offered as downloadable later is BS. I do praise games like Burnout for giving so much great extra content for free. Sure they eventually went with charging you, but there was a lot of great stuff for free.
Another gripe I have are the testers. It seems that more and more supposed great games are not even tested. The Force Unleashed is a prime example. I don't know how many times I got stuck in a wall, went through the floor for no reason, or the enemy bosses suddenly became stuck inside solid objects. That physics engine really kicks ass, so realistic indeed. Fail! |

Well if you want the best weapons it's like oh you need this item, this item, and this item to make this weapon, then you need these items to make this weapon, and so on.
