Default What Was the Launch Day For Blu-ray

I have only been Blu for 14 monthes, with a total of 71 Blu's. I have a few questions. 1. What day was blu-ray released to the public? 2.Was It Before or After PS3 launch? 3.What were the prices of blu-ray's/players??

Thanks

I believe it was around June 2006. For sure before the PS3 launch.

WoW, glad I Waited lol. I am very happy with blu-ray its been well worth it. In the future I want to get a tv to take full advantage of them. I am looking for a 40-42inch 1080p in the $600 range. It will get there some day.

The Sony BDP-S1 was $1000. It was the first Blu-ray player that I heard of. I have one - massive and nice-looking, it won't play CD's (or BD's very well, either). I have relegated it to a position of honor in the closet.

Mine still plays BD's very well. Update your firmware.

"Launch day for blu-ray" sound like a futuristic history book detailing when the world launched a weapon against an alien invasion

That SX-88 is still at $5125.00, but still isn't up to what the seller will accept. We have just over three days left to play what's the reserve!

Because some of us care. Plus there are plenty of threads focusing on release dates of some "good flicks". There's enough space on this forum for one thread to be focused on the history of blu-ray. How do you feel about the history of other subjects?

To me the launch was a let down. The players were all $500 more than Toshibas first gen HD DVD players. I consider the time from June 2006 to the PS3 launch in November more of limited rollout period.

But the most important day in the history of the format is still the night before CES 2008. Things have been looking up ever since.

Thanks for you input everyone. It is nice to read stories, from people who were there at the dawn of blu-ray. Keep It Up.

You guys are funny, making it sound like you're old timers and that this was eons ago. Guys, 2006 was only 3 years ago.

You've got nothing on us Laserdisc fogeys!

I believe the point of this thread is to reminisce the good 'ole days of not being able to afford this futuristic piece of tech. and wanting it so badly.
