Australia The Dark Knight Aspect Ratio

Hi gang. I just bought The Dark Knight BD for $25 at K-Mart and was soooo excited. Then i put it in and found that although the slick says the aspect ratio is 16:9/2:40, the disc is in 1:85. Has anyone else had this problem? I double checked all the settings on my tv and BD player and it still comes up in the wrong aspect ratio. I even compared it to the DVD which IS in 2:40. The blu looks STUNNING but i feel i'm missing out on the full widescreen experience.
Cheers,
Carcuss .

The imax scenes are in 16:9 (or 1.85:1), and the non imax scenes are in 2.40:1. The scenes in 1.85:1 are less cropped then the ones on the dvd, imax however is 1.44:1 so the image is still cropped during the imax scenes on the blu.

So simply put, your getting more of the image then you where before.

Thanks mate. On further investagation i see the film shuffles between two different aspect ratios which i find a little peculiar. I'm new at this blu-ray caper and appreciate any advice from those more knowledgable.
Cheers,
Carcuss.

The Aspect Ratios switch during scenes or shots filmed with IMAX camera's. This is ment to simulate the IMAX experience such as the one at IMAX Sydney or IMAX Melbourne.

Default Aspect Ratio of "The Dark Knight"

I HATE the changing aspect ratio... and yes- I know that "hate" is a strong word; but it is exactly the word that best describes how I feel about it...

that being said- from all the articles that I have found online, the majority of people do feel the same... a small percentage of folks do like it and a small percentage of folks are fine either way; but most of us have spent our hard-earned money expecting and wanting a blu-ray with a constant aspect ratio...

and this has taught me a lesson in waiting to check out online blu-ray reviews for the new video releases and reading the small fine print on the back bottom corner of the blu-ray package... and if it is not a "high priority" movie to add to my library- I will not buy it.....
