WWII in HD Blu-ray Out January 26, 2010 at Amazon.com

WWII in HD Blu-ray Review

I missed this even though I have The History Channel in HD. It doesn't seem to be repeating anytime soon, so has anybody seen this, does it have good replay value/is it worth getting?

I caught 1 1/2 episodes of it the other day. For the price, I definitely think it is worth it. Fashioned like a Ken Burns documentary, with letters from people framing the events. FASCINATING footage that really brings that times straight to life. Hard to watch at times...very graphic. Replay value? I don't think that it would, although there may be a chapter or 2 (I believe its 9 chapters) that you might have a real connection with & would want to watch again.

Saw the preorder price on AMAZON below $25. I definitely think that's worth a single viewing itself & am planning on getting it.

That is awesome! I was just wondering if this program would make it to Blu. I'm glad it did!

I have about 10 episodes recorded in my DVR and have watched a couple. These are very well made documentaries.

I watched all of them last week and they are great, but definitely not for the faint of heart due to all the graphic content. Definitely a release day buy if you are in to war documentaries/movies. I will be picking it up for sure!

Excellent, I'm glad to hear it. This is going to be a bit of a blind buy for me, but since I love just about anything WW2 related, I'm sure I'll like it.

That Blu-ray.com review really ought to specify that the previously-released material is still 1080i. Which is unfortunate... Was hoping for a progressive encode. Is that so difficult, or was the show done in 1080i from the ground up? Kind of ridiculous...

Great series otherwise. Watched it on Netflix streaming, actually. Wanna pick up the Blu-ray eventually. Think I'll wait for a major price decrease on the collector's edition.

I'm really loving Amazon on the collector's edition of this series, I bought it on release day and today they refunded me another $17, making it a total of $34 refunded. If anybody bought the collector's edition on release week might want to inquire if they haven't received a refund yet.

The price drop to $24.99 convinced me to cancel the "bare bones" edition and substitute this one. I'm also picking up Vietnam in HD as well.

I grabbed this too now that it's dropped.

Man, I have now gotten everything that I wanted and more in deals this holiday season. This totally puts me over the top and I certainly didn't expect all of it, especially by December 1st.
