I just bought a Onkyo HT-RC160 and i believe i came across a discussion that this receiver can't play all 7 channels discretely is that true? Right now i have it setup for 5.1 but thinking about adding a couple more in the near future.

if you just bought it, what does the instruction manual that came with it tell you?

the receiver is actually being shipped and dont physically have it in front of me. So i just wanted to have some clarifcation on those who have it or had experience with it.

sorry, i don't have experience with the receiver, i do have experience with google. i found your model as you listed it, read over what Onkyo had to say, looked at the manual and it never says there are or would be problems with using all 7.2 channels of it at the same time. it is listed as a 7.2 receiver. i think what you might be refering to is that some receivers drop power when all 7 channels are being driven. to be sure of that read the manual carefully, there is a pdf version of it at the site. have fun and get back to us with what you find. i'm sure you'll enjoy your new receiver when you get it.

Though I don't have it, I did consider it before I got my receiver. I'm pretty sure it supports 7 discreet channels. Its essentially same as the 607, minus 10 wpc power, front HDMI, and satellite radio.

Its a good receiver from what I've read. Enjoy
