The Wattage rating of any device is the power (in Watts) consumed by the device at any given moment. (W = IxE, or Watts = current in amps (I) times the voltage (E) typically 120VAC). This rating is usually on the "high side" to be safe, and I assume in your case, is the power consumed when the TV is "on." There should be a separate power rating for "off" or more correctly, "standby" (there really is no "off" unless you pull the power plug).
If you are asking what the power company is looking at, they charge by the kiloWatt hour. In other words, 1000W for one hour. So for your device, divide 1000 by 285 (which equals 3.508), therefore, you have to run your TV for 3.508 hours to have used 1kW/Hr. |

relax, the way to save money is to not have nothing on. your electric bill will not go up sky high cause your tv is on. FOX NEWS did a compare test on LCD, Plasm & RPTV. Rptv was the clear winner

thank you sptrout.
4Dblu. i dont need to relax. thank you for your concern. i live in a 2 bedroom with a loft, town home. 1100 sq/ft. i recently bought power saving appliances; refridgerator, ac unit, washer/dryer, water heater; and i am by myself. my power usage is around 1000 k/Wh every month. my tv was bought in 2006. i had a question and had it answered. i am using enough electricity for a 4 bedroom home of a family of 4. you also gave me some info, so thanks as well. |
