Default Great headphones?

While I'm saving up to get a nice HT system I would like to enjoy the audio qualities of my blu-rays better. For this, I think a great pair of headphones would do the job (for the time being).

Reason why: There's always someone sleeping in our house so even when I do have a HT I won't be able to crank it, and I don't want to blow out my precious lil TV speakers, so I want a quality pair of headphones so I can enjoy the audio on my toys better.

Also any advice as to what I should look for in headphones would be appreciated. Would be using them for films / shows on blu and gaming.

Bose quet comfort 1 or 2. Somehow they put slight pressure on your ears blocking out most sounds.

What's your budget? I can think of a few recommendations, but they may way beyond what you're willing to invest...

I would like to go no more than $400 for a pair of headphones.
I always think that's a boatload of money for headphones, but if they last a few years, then I think it's definitely worth it.

I very much enjoy my AKG K240 headphones. I don't know if they're still available, but here's the AKG website: http://www.akg.com/.

from the small amount of research i did the sennheisher hd 595 seemed like the best that company had to offer without needing a separate headphone amp. you can find them on amazon for about $180. i watched the hangover & quantum of solace with them so far and am very happy with my purchase. music also sounds wonderful on them.
they did seem to lack a little when playing modern warfare 2 but not enough to disappoint. they replicate bass well & are detailed enough that i don't feel im missing much when watching a blu.
they are open baffle which means they do let some sound in and out. not enough to be a problem but someone sitting on the couch next to you trying to read a book or something would probably get annoyed.

id buy them again

Check the Headphone Manufacturers thread in Portable Music section. Post #2 has links to headphone reviews. I will move this thread there.

Bowers & Wilkins are taking a swing at the headphone market with the new P5. They're targeted at the iPod market, so I doubt they'll be insanely expensive (for B&W).

No pricing information or reviews yet, but I'm curious.

B&W P5

this thread isn't discussing headphones with the intent of using them for portable music. is there a headphone thread in the ht section?

I have a pair of ATH-M20's and I know they're Audio Technica's entry level headphones, but man they sound incredible, many times worth the asking price.

The Sony MDR-V900HD is a great headphone. I own a pair and I highly recommend it.

Amazon, $169:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-V900H...2652816&sr=8-1

Guitar Center, $229:

B&H Photo Video, 169:

Sony Style, $260:

Are you ready for the good news? You can buy the same brand new headphone for $35-$40 (Buy it Now) on Ebay.

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...All-Categories

Buy 10 of them for the price of one Sennheiser and put one in every room. Don't get me wrong. Sennheiser makes great headphones and I own two of them, but it can't beat the Sony for $35.

I just LOVE my Sony MDR-7509HD's. They're insanely cheap for what you get in return.
