Hello,
I have been noticing lately that when i load up a game (for example assassin's creed II, a message pops up saying 1080, but as soon as the game gets to the first screen, another message pops up sayin 720 again. I'm wondering if there is another setting/option I'm missing, because i know this game fully supports 1080p. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks, Tony |

good question
i know multi port games are only 720p on the ps3 & 360 you could force the game to 1080p by only selecting 1080p on the ps3 menu (same for 360) but why ever play a game on a NON native resolution? ps3 only games are usually ran @ 1080p native resolution ![]() |

Most Playstation 3 games do not run on 1080p resolution, most are in 720p, in fact the reason many games feature the support of 1080p is that older HDTVs lack 720p support and 1080i is the olny functional resolution on the set. However, you wont tell the difference between the resolutions, whether it's scaled or native, especially if your display is already a 1080p set. The scaling on your television set however would be more of the reason to play the game in 1080p. Some 1080p sets tend to do poorly when upscaling 480p or 720p signals (even deinterlacing 1080i), which is when you want to play in 1080p. If the 720p signal is functioning normally on a 1080p set, at far or normal seating distances and smaller televisions, there should be no visible difference.

Typically on PS3 you have to force this buy choosing only 1080p in the PS3's configuration. |

as said by the above most games DO NOT run 1080p.. when u see it pop up 1080p that just means that into screen is in 1080p and then the game returns to 720p which is its native resolution... itll run smoother in 720p versus u trying to force it to 1080p cause u think 1080p means something

I bought a 1080i 65 inch projection in Atlanta around 2004 and used that until the HDMI port went bad on it around September. I picked up a 1080p 55 inch LCD Sony and every game looked crisp and upgraded. It was like I was playing all of my games for the first time. I have my PS3 set to 1080p.

![]() There are plenty games that run "native" 1080i/p on Ps3, you must be thinking of the 360 or the wii. Last I checked the ps3 also runs movies at that resolution as well (I know this has nothing to do with games). This link shows that the ps3 "can" output games at native 1080p: http://www.webtechpoint.com/video-game-consoles/ "The RSX can easily output resolutions of up to 1080p; but an important feature is its upscaling ability. The chip was ready quickly, running at a core clock of 550 MHz and utilizing 256 MB of video memory. Nivdia and Sony often touted the power of the RSX by saying it was more powerful than two GeForce 6800 Ultra graphics cards combined." ![]() |
