Default Sony HTSF360

anyone have this ??!?

I know it's probably not the best thing but I don't need the high end system and I think this would be good for me... My main question is that will it be ok if my PS3 is hooked with this and will the image be the same if it's decoded by the small ''receiver'' ... I have a 1 year old Sony 1080p 40inch TV.... I just want surround sound with a 5.1 system in my small living room I don't need and the TrueHD and those type of technology....

This appears to be two degrees of separation from my HT-SS2300: (a) cosmetic redesign of AVR (HT-SS360, the current version of mine); (b) L/R tower speakers instead of simple boxes.

It's good for PS3 owners, especially since all PS3's decode but only "slim" PS3's bitstream. Since your PS3 contains TrueHD & DTS-HD MA decoders, you *WILL* get HD audio from this system. (Edit: Your image won't be affected; it will merely pass the video on to your TV without change, i.e., 1080p.)

However, there's a couple of future compatibility issues to be concerned about: (a) Proprietary connectors & odd ohmage mean you won't be able to upgrade the speakers later on; (b) lack of HD-audio decoders means you won't get HD audio from stand-alone BD players that won't decode. (I just added a stand-alone, but luckily it does decode.)

Finally, though I know that's Canadian pricing, it still seems a bit high to me for its feature set. If you're spending that much, you might want to consider an entry-level AVR with TrueHD & DTS-HD MA decoders and separate speakers, or an HTIB that combines those components (i.e., Onkyo or Yamaha); that should avoid both future compatibility issues.
