3. Back to the Future

Not one person has listed a Star Wars film yet? I'll start:

Star Wars
Matrix
Close Encounters
T2
Aliens

Ask me again tomorrow. I'll probably have 5 others...

4. Star Trek (09)
5. The Terminator

I'm liking Terminator Salvation in terms of AV and some of the story. It might not make the top 5, but I do recommend it sometimes. I even like Alien3 directors cut, but its not everyone's cup of tea. Avatar is still simmering right now, it would probably be #9 behind The Matrix sequels and Back to the Future. I will say that Terminator 2 has fallen quite a bit in my eyes. Sorry but story wise, it has a terrible middle part and the end is a rip of T1. The beginning though is still aces.

The Prestige is a good film, but its classification only really pops up at the end, and its more drama than sci-fi, but to each their own.

About The Thing

If you are talking about the J. Carpenter version, it is not in really a remake of the 1951 Howard Hawks film per se, but rather a more faithful adaptation of the original novel "Who Goes There?" that Hawks' version was also based on.
What makes many people think it is a remake is the title (and probably the way the studio had wanted to capitalize on the first film as well I guess).
