Default Controlling the PS3 with RF.

Well I've been searching for a solution...I have a Harmony 1100. I have converted my home theater from IR to RF. The idea I am thinking about is...getting a PS3IR-1000 and using that IR repeater on the unit and place an RF eye on that. So I can then control my PS3 with my Harmony and having full functions.

Has anyone tried something like this before? I definitely don't want to use line of sight (IR). not sure if there are any other options out there. Not sure if there will be a bigger delay since PS3IR-1000 connects to the PS3 via BT...then we use IR to send commands and in this case I have to use RF to send commands to the IR to convert commands to BT then to PS3.

Reason why I opted to not use the Harmony adapter was because I didn't think I could get the RF eye to hit the Reapter due to the case design. After finding an article on it....looks like because of the case design...its not to picky were you place it. so that might be an option...cheaper one at that.

Thoughts?

The Harmony Adapter works perfectly fine without direct line of sight

Mine sits on top of my A/V stand out of sight of the remote.. I can control my PS3 even while the remote is pointed at the floor.. the only way it doesn't pick up the signal is if I point with my back to the adapter

I'm guessing as long as you don't have it sitting in a drawer or trying to beam through a wall, it should find the signal alright

thats the thing....I have converted my setup to a clean look, minimalist...see my gallery. so i have no place to put the logitech PS3 harmony adapter. So yes...i am beaming through the wall is the only option.

I don't know if its RF or IR but they do have these leapfrog things that I know send the signal thoughout the house.

They have a couple of different ones but I don't know if this meets your needs at all.

Your set-up is very clean looking by the way, nice job.

I use the USB plug that came w/ the $14 Nyko remote, controlled by my MX-980 and whichever base station I have hooked up.

Works like a charm.

can u power on/off with the nyko? ok so i read up....the answer is no. i think for full automation...i should probably go with it for $50 not that $11.99 is aweful temptings. but the bad thing is i can't power it up once it goes down.

I took a look at your pics... any edge room around that subwoofer? The PS3 adapter is very thin around .8" so if you have some space you could fit it in between the sub and box wall you built then you wouldn't have to worry about line of sight...

The only other thing I can think of is to use an RF to IR converter along with the adapter... the only thing I know of currently that can turn PS3 on and off is the remote and the harmony adapter.. all the other dongles, etc.. won't turn the PS3 on once it's off. Sorry I can't be more helpful here - kind of a unique situation with your setup - looks nice and clean, but it comes with caveats like this

I'm sure by the time the PlayStation 33 comes out, we'll have a completely different technology for controlling it.

zero room around the sub unfortunately. prolly less than .25" at any spot...its pretty snug in there.

i'm thinking i just do it......purchase the logitech since its cheaper.

what you can do the with PS3IR-1000 or 500 is power it by a different device. my comcast cable box has a usb plug....i could power it via that.
comcast box never turns off. but if i want all the functions i need the 1000 really which is 79 vs the 50 bucks for the logitech.

i was reading that i could connect my logitech RF to the ps3 logitech adapter via a side with a 3.5mm and other side is 2.5mm problem is i've used all 4 slots. so unplugging one isn't an option but stealing the eye from the dvd player and placing it o the logitech is a possiblity. hopefully there is not a lot of lag that goes with all of the multiple conversions of signal.
