Default HDMI OUT to DVI IN

Ok, I have a OPPO Bluray player I need to set up with a PC monitor for now until I get a new TV. My monitor has DVI and VGA inputs and I have a converter do-hickey thing from Monster that has HDMI female end and DVI (DVI-D Single Link) male end. I have used the adapter to feed video OUT from a GFX card to a projector but never in the opposite direction by attaching it to a monitor to use as a converter for INPUT. So far it does not seem to work... any ideas of a workaround? Thanks!

please start out by telling us what brand & model monitor you are using. for example, I have a gateway 24" LCD monitor, model FPD2485W with DVI, component, svideo, composite & VGA inputs. I currently hafe it connected to both of my computers and a blul-ray player via an HDMI switcher. for the pc's i use HDMI-DVI cables and a straight HDMI cable for the blu-ray player. I also have a cable HD-DVR connected via HDMI. for the cable & blu-ray I use SPDIF for audio via a composite switcher and the pc's are either 5.1 analog out or optical out to my Logitech 5.1 soundsystem that does DTS & DD from any of those 3 inputs.

get back to us with at least your monitor info, feel free to give any other info though, it might be helpful.

The problem with HDMI/DVI is some of the time the EDID information doesn't come through correctly. It should just be plug and play. Try some different resolutions.

I had this problem with my old Infocus 7200. It would accept the 720 signal and wouldn't let my Blu Ray player output 1080p (even though the EDID was telling it would support 1080p). Some of the time HDMI and DVI do not play well together.

Assuming your monitor is HDCP compliant, a simple HDMI-DVI cable should do the trick. Sometimes converters can be a problem.
