Default Backwards Compatibility comingto PS3?

I'm sure this topic has been discussed before but does anyone know if the new line of PS3 Slims will get a firmware update of some kind to allow PS2/PS1games to be played like the previous PS3 models included??

PS1 games can be downloaded and played. There have been rumors that Sony is working on a software update to allow downloadable copies of PS2 games to work. I don't think you'll see any updates that allow you to pop a PS2 disc in and play on the Slim though.

If it's a concern and you're looking for BC, I'd suggest browing Craigslist for a broken 60GB. People in my area are selling them all the time - usually for $100 (it will then cost you another $150-80 for Sony to fix if you can't do it yourself).

It's my understanding that all PS1 will already play on the PS3. As for PS2 games, that's a bit more complicated. It would involve software emulation, but I haven't heard anything definitive that Sony is going to make that available to us. One can always hope, though...

The only way you'll see ps2 games being played on non bc ps3's is purchasing them on the psn.

There have been a few things from SCE PR that can be interpreted as such, but I doubt it.

I agree....I jsut have too many PS2 games in great that I've kept in great condition over the years that I just cannot get rid of.

Thing is...I don't want the older bulkier PS3's that play PS2 games.....big dilemma for me

Feel your pain, I lost mine 3 weeks ago. Really the only games I have that I played were GOW, and Shadow of the Colossus.
