Default Most Over Rated Directors

What directors do you just think are over rated?

For me it's Romero. I just don't see what is the big deal with his films. To me they were boring. I watched Dawn of the Dead for the first time the other day and I was not into it at all.

so who you got?

robert redford or kevin costner easy, scorsese should have won for both raging bull and goodfellas, no question

Romero definitely, and I would add Uwe Boll.
Someone in Hollywood must think something good about him to allow him to continue making crap movies...

Boll is not in Hollywood and because a tax loop is able to continue to make movies the way he does.

dude you just lost a ton of respect in my book
kidding dude, kidding.

no i know what you mean. first viewing i was like "huh?", in fact i stopped it half hour in. now, i can say its one of my all-time favorite films. why?
[Show spoiler] romero was obviously comparing the dead zombies coming to the mall "because of memory..." and "its a place they felt comfort" as a symbol of the american consumer (and materialism/greed in general). when i saw that connection, the film became a gem. next time i went to the mall, what did i see? walking people (zombies) going into the mall and salivating over everything in the store...pretty huge theme when u think about it. try it on black friday

as far as overrated? for me its Fincher. dont get me wrong, i think he makes good films, but IMO no better than an average director. i still dont get why his work is so acclaimed. perhaps i'm not seeing something?

Nice analogy regarding Zombies to Consumer relations.

dang I'm sorry man. haha But yea I should go back and watch his films again but I'm glad you understand where I am coming from. that is a good idea about the mall though, I'll give him that!

I agree with you totally about Fincher. I love CCOBB and Zodiac, and like Fight Club. but he does receive too much praise.

yeah, I did like Fight Club, but not much beyond that. Oh well, maybe i'll watch Zodiac again one day. That one was okay so perhaps worth another viewing.

I like all of Eastwood's films...but they get much more credit than the deserve.

This is how I would rank them:
Mystic River
Million Dollar Baby
Unforgiven
Gran Torino
....These were his best

Sorry, can't agree.
In the Line of Fire was directed by Wolfgang Petersen, who occasionally flirts with overratedness himself. But hey, I think we can forgive the guy who brought us Das Boot!

Have you seen Play Misty for me, high plains drifter, the outlaw josey wales, hearbreak ridge, a perfect world, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, gran tourino, or Letters from Iwo Jima? Give clint another chance, he makes great films.

But Letters from Iwo Jima is also a masterpiece. And so was Changeling, he might not be that high but I think he deserves the respect he gets.

I completely disagree about Fincher. Se7en and Zodiac are two of my all-time favorite movies, Fight Club, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and The Game were all very good movies. And Panic Room is pretty good. That's just about everything he's ever done and all of them are at least pretty good in my opinion.
