I've seen just about everything except a 1080p projector. Anyone watched a blu-ray on a 1080p projector?

While I have seen great pictures on Plasma, LCD and LED (plasma usually being the best). For impact and size, it is pretty hard to beat a properly setup projector. I guess it depends on size of the room, how far you would like to sit from the screen, 1.85 or 2.35. Those are all good places to start.

I voted plasma. I have both plasma and lcd tv. there's really little difference between the latest LCD and Plasmas. It all boils down to who can reproduce deep black and shadow detail, and we all know here that plasma is holding the upper hand. Also, i voted plasma because it suits my needs. i'm a fussy movie watcher, i turn all the lights out when watching, i like inviting freinds a family over and some of them will be sitting off axis to the screen.

wish I could find a Kuro

I too voted for Plasma, I've owned DLP, LCD, and Plasma.

Plasma rocks!

I have seen a Panasonic AE4000...image is really good...but to me I much preferred my Pioneer 101FD even though the screen is much smaller. I just sit a bit closer to the screen and pretend it is a 100 inches...

Plasma.
But I do plan to make the jump to a projector some time in the near future.

Projector.
For me the size really adds another dimension to the movies (it really feals like you're flying or sailing when the whole wall moves) and with 1080p the picture quality is still very detailed. I see things that I never saw on a smaller screen before such as people or objects in the background that were too small to make out before.

Let me put it this way. Projector technology has really come into its own with 1080p. It knocks the crap out of all the other technologies out there. My LCOS Kuro Projector is just as good as a 140" Kuro Plasma.

Except I can't get a 140" Plasma into my basement.

The size is one thing...... but in addition, I think the image feels much more Cinema-like...... if not for the massive size, and the fact I would have to scrounge the used-market, I probably would have went with a CRT-Front Projector setup. The colors on a CRT projector are fantastic and warm..

edit: I prefer my 720p projector over my 1080p LCD.......it's a whole different experience.

I voted plasma, but if you can, then a projector is always sweet! As far as "just" a display Kuro is king amigo!

Projector for life!!!
After that, I would choose a Plasma.

If U see a PJ in action, you will change your mind. I haven't turned on my TV since I got the PJ in December.

It is just mind blowing. You cannot beat that even with a Kuro.

Cinescope for the winner. Watching 2.35:1 and 2.40:1 without black bars. Just beautiful and immersive.

Plasma!

Although I'm not sure how you intended those who haven't been around projectors to vote. I'd like a projector some day as my main movie experience, but right now I'm loving my plasma.

Here we go again. LED LED LED. It seems we can't go very long on this forum before LED comes up again. Your poll should read "LCD standard" or "LCD with LED backlight" LED is not a display technology.

Plasma.

I use a Sony 52" XBR4 LCD for daily TV viewing, and my Kuro 60" for Blu. They're both great, but nothing beats a Kuro.

My test: The opening few seconds of The Dark Knight...I couldn't see the folds in the Joker's gray suit coat, while he was waiting to be picked up by the Suburban. On the Kuro, the contrast is so perfect, it was like I was standing ten steps behind him.

No amount of calibration on the XBR could bring that out. LCD's have improved since the XBR4, but not that much.

Plasma.
