Default Got Samsung LN52B750 today. I'm disappointed.

Hi there.
So today I received the LN52B750 (LCD) from Amazon. I was very exited, as that was going to replace a Panasonic S1 (plasma) that had a black level problem, which replaced a Westinghouse lvm-37w3se (LCD) before that. All of this are 1080p screens. However, the Samsung is just terrible.

To start off, the LN52B750 is EXTREMELY slow, my GOD! Simple things as scrolling menus is very sloppy, it takes like 1s to respond, so making simple adjustments take a while. Also, input lag is terrible. Using it as a monitor is impossible, as the mouse is always trying to catch up with me. Also, the delay is not constant, so sometimes is OK, then starts lagging, then normal again. Very unpredictable.

Another thing that bothers me is the whole Auto Motion Plus 240hz. Anything outside of Clear or Off is useless. First of all, the image looks very distorted. People said that they could see halos, but this are not halos, is more like if you throw water to a painting, the colors stretch out and mix into nearby objects. But the biggest problem is that the TV just can't keep up with it, so it drops frames. So yeah, it plays fine, but if a fast action scene kicks in, it looks like a slideshow, and then back to normal. The forest fight in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is almost unwatchable. So yeah, the TV keeps speeding up and down constantly.

There is other problems too, as the inability to turn off Dynamic Contrast in Movie mode despite me selecting "Off". The black level are good, but not $1,666 good, and miles behind from the S1.

So, anyone familiar with Amazon return policy? They say that if the item doesn't have an error I have to pay shipping, and most probably restocking fee too. What is amazon restocking fees and shipping prices?

Oh man, I so wish mine fails in the next day or so, lol, so I don't have to pay. I'm trying extra hard to find a defect, but everything is perfect, haha. Even the screen is good, no clouding, flashing, or wrinkles whatsoever.

I'll probably get a Panasonic G20/G25. I can deal with the few disadvantages of plasma, but not this Samsung. Heck, I'd even keep my current Westinghouse before it.

I'm sorry that you are so disappointed. I love amazon, but I'm not a big fan of ordering television online. It may work for some, but for me it does not..

I hope it works out well for you, but try a retail store before you make a big purchase. I would probably wait for the new Panny!

Well, that's why I said G20/G25, those ARE the new Panny. The S2 (2010 version of the S1) already come out, so it should not be long until the G20 is available.

I just hate how they added Pro Calibration Settings to the European version, and we US get screwed. Hopefully a V20 comes out, and I might consider it. Proper 24p and PIP, hell yeah. No way in hell am I paying for the VT25.

Love my Samsung 52B. I leave Auto Motion off and deeply enjoy the fabulous color, contrast and black levels. The menus are slow but much less so than my original Sony Bravia, and it hardly counts as a bother.

Well, I payed a pretty penny for the 240hz version, I was expecting it to work, even if it's just frame repeat (no de-judder). CUSTOM with 0 Dejudder & 10 Anti-blur stutters, same for STANDARD, and SMOOTH. CLEAR does it too, but ONLY like every 30 seconds or so. CLEAR feels like it's lagging behind, so it skips like 2~3 frames just to catch up, and then continues. Like you said, OFF is the only mode worth it, but that's just garbage from Samsung.

So yeah, that pretty much leaves me with a standard 60hz LCD, lol. I tried to watch Transformers Revenge of the Fallen like that, but it was very uncomfortable, as it was a tiny-bit better than my Westinghouse LCD, which is pretty blurry. The Panasonic S1, now that's a beast. The S1 kicks the crap out of both of them in the motion department, staying neck-to-neck with the CRT we have in the living room.

Despite LCDs having better brightness, in theory, the B750 has the same while detail as any other LCD. In the higher end, despite having a more pure color of white, there is some white crush. There was more contrast between whites in the S1.

As far as black level, it is good, but the poor viewing angles kill it. Blacks turn Blue very rapidly, at a faster degree than my Westinghouse, but that might be due to size. But at least the Westy turns from Black to Gray, not Blue, lol.
Same goes for Contrast, it is good, but compared to what? Not the S1, that's for sure, because they are in a whole different league.

Bah, I'll stop right here. Sorry to carry this so much, but I'm just pissed. I was so hyped about B750, everyone seems to love it, and it just let me down. Only took me around 1 hour to realize I didn't want it.

Yeah, you tend to notice those short comings when you switch from plasma to LCD. I think you'll be ecstatic with a new Panny G20/25. They should be hitting the retailers' shelves in a week or two, or you can pre-order directly from the Panasonic web site now. Enjoy !!

I leave my auto motion on. I like new tech. Hate my movie's looking like the theater. Blurry and can't see anything, but to each his own I guess.

are you sure that you just don't have a defective set? I could never go back to LCD from plasma but maybe you really do just have a bad tv?

You can get around paying return shipping, call and tell them there is a problem with it. They should take it back at no cost to you, I did this once because I wasn't satisfied with a tv. It wasn't with Amazon though but should still work.

What am I gonna say? lol.
I mean, I'm willing to pay for the shipping, which is $53 (if they use the same method). That still buys me a 50" G20 and I still have money left over. However, restocking fee is the real pain, as I believe it is 15%. That's like $250 right there, and THAT, is too much.

AHHH! It's just that it's too damn slow!!! Anything besides OFF makes it stutter every few seconds, although CLEAR is very unnoticeable, but CLEAR still keeps the soap opera effect (slightly). I mean, would that even be considered a excuse? That it is too slow, making any mode besides OFF too slow and the image can't keep up? I dough it.

I saw an UN55B6000 at CompUSA, it definitely didn't have this problem. I even have video of it, I recorded it. They're both 240hz. The B6000 was smoother, real soap-opera feel. In the B750 is different, because it lags, and real life doesn't lag, lol.
Could mine really be bad, or is it me just making an excuse because the B750 is garbage by default, just to save myself some cash? lol.

This is interesting to me because I thought the B6000 lag was worse when compared to the B750 when I demoed them, plus I just couldn't stand the bleeding light/clouding in the corners of the B6000. Good luck on the return. I am looking at the G20 myself, anxiously awaiting some reviews.

Sorry, I meant to say stutter, not lag. I'm not sure if it was lagging behind, because I don't know if they were applying any type of audio sync, but it didn't stutter. The B750 it's not bad in some scenes, but in fast action it just feels like it was dropping frame. You know, like if you go from 30fps to 20fps momentarily in a video game, you notice it, because you feel the video is skipping ahead.

And yes, bleeding was the reason I chose the B750 over then B6000.

You may very well have a defective one, for that kind of cash you need to be happy with your purchase and should not have to pay fees to get something you do like.

I would go to Best Buy or another local store and check out the same model you have and see if it suffers the same issues. If NOT, you might very well have a defective unit, or the signal/input you are feeding it is not kosher. It may not like it. Try another input, different cables.

If the unit you play with locally DOES exhibit the same issues, it's not a defect and you should look at alternative panels.

When it comes to buying tv's on Amazon, you really need to research and now 100% what you want and what you are going for. There can be NO question. Before deciding on another panel if you decide to do that - go and play, test, touch and see it locally BEFORE you order. Make sure it's what you want. This will help avoid any issues.

I hope you get it worked out. Good luck

The customer (not directed at the OP) should ALWAYS do their homework before making a purchase online. Especially a high dollar purchase. Buying stuff online is cheaper, yes - however it does come with some caveats. A couple of them being restocking fees for items that are not defective and the customer being responsible for return shipping on items that are again, not defective. That comes with the territory.

If the customer wants to spend a little more to have the peace of mind they can drive their tv back to it's place of purchase if they are not happy, that's an option. Please be aware, local stores also have a restocking fee for items that are not defective. However of course, no shipping fees

Restocking fees while I hate them and don't agree with them, I understand them. They are there for a reason.

Again, I hope the OP gets it worked out. Go check the same panel at your local stores and see what you find out.

Well, the thing is, I've seen the B750 at several BestBuys already. I saw the B750 in person before I pulled the trigger. The problem is, that none of the BestBuys let me play any of my own video on it, only their own video. That's why I went to several stores, to see different videos, as each store had a different commercial playing. Never did I notice that problem. However, when I got it home, I probably noticed the problem within a minute, it's just so obvious. And I'm not talking because I had a plasma before (that got returned a month ago), I'm talking because the 37" 1080p Westinghouse that is sitting in from on me right now, the one I'm using to type this, has NEVER lagged so bad, or ever at all. Let alone stutter, lol, I didn't even know what was possible, never in my life have I seen a screen stutter. I mean, WTF Samsung? Don't put crap into your tv if it can't handle it.

Bah, I'll just follow Vicon advise, and just explain my situation to Amazon. One this is for sure, I can't keep this B750, I just can't. I don't enjoy it.

Again guys, thanks for the replys. I just wanted to know if there were more people with my problem, or people with experience with Amazon returns. I'll email them tonight (my english, accent mainly, is not as good to give them a call), and see what happens. I'm in day 2, of my 14 day return window, so I'm good.

Great advice there. People start/keep doing this - Amazon will kill it fast and those that followed the rules, will suffer.

I have purchased 3 tv's from Amazon. One 32" Panasonic LCD, one 50" Panasonic plasma and one 42" Samsung plasma. All arrived without issue. The 50" Panasonic plasma had a manufacturer defect and Amazon replaced it and picked it up without any hassle. They offered me some money off to keep it or replace it. If it didn't have 5 dead pixels, I would have kept it.

So please, don't go around posting how to screw over Amazon. Not a good thing to do. The OP has some issues but they are not because of defects or the like. It's a personal issue and Amazon should not be held liable for return shipping.

OP - Call Amazon and explain your frustrations. See what they say. Worst they say is you do what you already have to - pay to ship back and restocking fee. Best case, they cover it for you.

I'm not making this up. I'll post the comparisons pictures when I have a chance. Is over 100ms, against another LCD, just imagine what it is compared to a CRT. That's too much IMHO.

BTW guys, they already came to pick up my tv last Wensday. Is just a matter of waiting for a refund from now on. =)

I have the LN52B750 and am using most of CNET's settings but with a few little adjustments made by using the Blu-ray DVE HD Basics disc. I'm not experiencing any of the problems that are being mentioned in this thread.
