Default Paranormal Activity causing Havoc in Italy.

Hey,

Don't know if its that serious to begin with. I have seen the movie and thought it was good (funny at parts) but is it really that serious to cause paralysis and panic attacks.

Now I know about epilepsy, and thought that its mostly rare but not up to this point.

Matter have gotten so complicated that at some point banning the film was an option but not anymore.

Anyways here is what's going on in Italy:

Quote:
While we are all sick and tired of hearing about "Paranormal Activity" in the US, the film just hit theaters in Italy. And the country's emergency response services have since been overwhelmed with calls of panic attacks.

According to the ANSA news agency, there were "panic attacks lasting more than half an hour. The more serious case is that of a 14-year-old girl who was brought to the hospital in a state of paralysis."

Alessandra Mussolini, granddaughter of the Italian fascist dictator and head of a parliamentary committee on children, said "Paranormal Activity" had "highly distressing content" and was causing "panic attacks and psychological problems among youths."

"I don't think we can ban 'Paranormal Activity' now, but surely we need to study how to warn parents of the risks their children are incurring," Mussolini said.

The Italian parents' association noted that admission to the movie is restricted in the United States, Britain, Germany and The Netherlands and asked for an age limit of 18 in Italy.
What do you guys think?.

I thought the movie was pretty good right up to the end, which seemed beyond silly. It seemed very home movie like.

I liked that about it and I liked the girl's "performance". As Ebert said it didn't seem like acting, you really believe she's a haunted college girl struggling for her sanity and her boyfriend's protection/understanding.

The article is true. But it does bring up a point, do people see things differently depending on where they are from?

There were similar reports in the USA and at the premier.

Personally, I couldnt get past the BAD acting enough to be scared or find it funny.

This story sounds like classic scary movie marketing to me. It's possible the movie is causing some problems for cultural reasons (i.e. superstition, religiosity), but I have a hard time believing the incidents are anything more than isolated. But if it were I would blame mass hysteria, a "copycat" psychological factor, as much as the movie itself.

Didn't know about that.

I am aware of what The Exorcist did when it was released in theaters. I myself see enough in the movie that could contribute to the people reacting that way. But with Paranormal I just don't get it.

Yeah. I cant remember which festival it was, but people were being taken out on stretchers and a guy in his mid 40s was reported as having a heart attack. I dont know if it was BS hype or true, but there were a lot of "reports of incidents". Who knows.
