When are some new titles going to be $20 or under?

Tired of reading about about how cheap titles are from 2 years ago, What about the crazy prices for the Criterion releases ( $29 !!! ). I want to buy Le Mepris and The Lady Killers but $25 from Amazon I feel is too high. Am I alone in feeling prices right now for Black Dynamite and most new releases are way too high?

I don't care about prices...if I want it, I get it, regardless of price.

for the most part new releases dont take long to get under 20 dollars. criterion is an obvious exception, they have always been more expensive and usually dont drop that low.

I don't expect a lot of change. Criterion releases were always expensive on DVD. In fact, a lot of their blu-rays sell for less than their DVD did when first released. There are some great bargains (see the top of the page), but many new releases are costing a little more than usual lately.

It's like a game of "chicken" with the retailers, each waiting for the other to drop the price and then all following suit.

Seems like the price drops don't start happening until the Sunday before release.

Outside of the Christmas season, I just do not believe retailers will drop prices that low on new releases. The best you are going to do on release week is with studio coupons, like the ones Disney provides on certain movies.

Value is a choice each person has make themselves.

If I want a title I will usually get it, waiting around for a price drop is not critical to me. It is more important to me to see a movie than the cost.

I'm fine with prices being under $30.00 per. Under $20.00 is also nice...

I agree that there is some definite plan being utilized by retailers when it comes to pricing blu-rays. More often nothing seems to budge price-wise which stinks, just look at the Hurt Locker. Been waiting for that to hit at least a low of 20.00 and it never seems to get there. I just won't pay up past 20.00 unless it is something I really, really love or want. Good example is Up in the Air. Really love this movie but 25.00 is a bit steep for such a quiet film. On the other hand, I just paid 16.61 (shipping included) for the UK edition of Twister. Sometimes I think they are misjudging their customers. We want to spend, but not at the prices they are continuing to post. I for one can wait them out.

Walmart lead the way this Christmas with sub $20 prices on new release BDs. Obviously it was for the holiday season only. I'd like to see prices back around the $20 mark as well. Blu-ray has been out long enough that $25 prices should come down. I'll definitely wait for some titles to come down in price before making a purchase.

I have enough movies now that I can wait for movies to drop in price before I jump. I used to buy movies at just about any price, now I usually wait for $20-, unless it's an import. Looking forward to the Christmas season when Wal-Mart will have $20 new releases again.

The 2009 Holiday season has taught me that I can wait on some movies as well. I still have movies I don't watch so in some cases I don't know why I feel I have to have things day one now.

Considering that the first title you mentioned there was up for many oscar nods and the oscars happening tonight why would a studio lower the price when they get a free advertising push on the movie to sell more copies?

They will be under $20 when they go on sale. So maby 3-4 months after they first come out. Then again they have some good sales the first 5 days they come out.
