Default Respecting Forums

Here's a situation that happened recently with another forum I frequent. I want to know your opinions.

So, a member at this forum usually throws a bbq for regional members every once in a while(Let's call him #1). #1 has done this many times before and he usually takes the time and effort to get the location, get there early, bring tons of supplies, and then does the photos.

Well #1 sets up a new one and all the people are excited and everything. Next thing you know, a new member(#2) to the forum goes and posts the bbq on a different forum! Without asking permission. On top of that, most people only bring their significant others, #2 posted that they were going to bring 6 people with them

So that's two strikes to me. #1 then politely asks the person to take down the posting from the other forum(they have not done so as of today, I fear they are going to raid the bbq) and on top of that, and I can only think out of spite, #2 organized a new bbq at a restaurant and are offering to pay for people's food if they join the other forum!

The whole time #2 has been on the forum they have done nothing but advertise and advocate their other site.

Now all of this just seems wrong to me. I mean come on, have some respect for other places you visit. I mean isn't that just common courtesy? The forum in question relies heavily on ad dollars from vendors and the forum for #2 is a new site that is just getting started. It's like they are blatantly trying to steal membership and that would adversely effect the sites financial stability.

Sorry for the long rant but it just seems wrong to me. I've pm'd the mods there but they are unsure how to react to it. I'm thinking of pming the site administrator next.

What are your thoughts?

def. disrepectful.

esp. if it's a new member coming in and causing all of the commotion.

i think u'd be in the right to pm the admin about the new member.

Get #2 IP banned, then number #1 can PM everyone with a new date and location. Let everyone from the other forum show up and leave #2 holding the bag. Just be sure to go and take pictures of the debacle for us.

I vote for this option

OK I pm'd the site admin the entire situation and a recommendation on what to do. We'll see what happens next.

My recommendation is to ban the new user and delete their thread.

Good.

You mentioned "isn't that common courtesy" in your initial post. I hate to be the board cynic here, but there is no longer such a thing called "Common Courtesy."

I had a rant about that on this board a long time ago... here.
