Why must DEAL threads be locked as soon as the deal is dead?

There have been a few ocasions where I've wanted to question or comment on something in the DEALS forum, but the thread has been locked as soon as the deal went dead, even though people are still waiting on and discussing their orders of said deal (The Firefly Amazon thread for example).

I know I'm new here, but I've been on DVD Talk for 8 years and over there the word DEAD is usually just added to the title and the thread is left open for further discussion by people still waiting on and receiving their orders.

Can this not be done here too?

Firefly thread was locked for other reasons. Most threads are not locked and Dead is added to title. There are very few locked threads in the first few pages. I created the one thread and locked it as Amazon raised the price at midnight.

Personally it makes sense to me because people may think the deal is still active. Then they will be hit with disappointment. Then sadness.

That's the reason for adding "DEAD" in the title. But there are those who got in on the deal (again, like the Lightning Deal for Firefly) who are still waiting for their order but have nowhere to discuss it.

I didn't see any reason that thread got locked, other than the one guy that was talking about how he begged Amazon to give him the price. In that case his posts should just get removed.

Oh, sorry. Must have just been the couple I wanted to reply in that were locked, so I assumed they all got locked once dead. Never mind.

its alright, yea as far as removing the posts, its a common occurence with him and when the threads start getting derailed like than and its already dead its just easier to lock it. I can go back and fix it, but if you wanna start a thread in retail discussion subforum, That would be alright as well.

The best way to handle this issue would be adding "DEAD" to the thread title, while moving it to the retail discussion subforum. That allows it to be out of the main hot deals section, while still allowing users who got to take advantage of it to continue the discussion and followup.
