Default 'Johnny English 2' in the works!

Yeah, cause we really need a sequel

Source: Empire
Quote:
In the spirit of Rowan Atkinson character films appearing years apart (Bean: 1997, Mr Bean's Holiday: 2007), Universal have decided that what the world needs now is another Johnny English adventure, a sequel to the 2003 movie.

Yes, despite seriously mixed reviews, the international success of the first film ($161 million around the globe) means that we’ve got another outing for Atkinson’s bumbling spy hero headed our way.

If you’re thrilled at the news, we’re happy for you. If the idea fills you will bowel-weakening dread, there’s nothing we can say that will make it better. Oh, Oliver Parker, who directed both recent St Trinian’s films is behind the camera, and Mr Bean’s Holiday scribe Hamish McColl has written the script. Not exactly names to inspire confidence, but who knows – this could be the movie that works wonders and saves Universal all at once.

Working Title is naturally involved and is looking to get the shoot started this August.

All we can say now is: Arrrgh! Thank you, Barclaycard!

FWIW, "Mr. Bean's Holiday" was a LOT better than "Bean: the Movie"--in the sense of "Going back to basics and fixing what they shouldn't have done in the first movie"--and I suspect that's the main motivation for hiring Hamish on the second movie.

If the apology-sequel results are as good as "Holiday", I'll give it a rent...I've never seen the UK commercials, but the movies can only go up from here.

I love Mr. Bean, but Mr. Bean's Holiday was AWFUL...the original Bean was no masterpiece, but it was MUCH better than the sequel.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind number 1, and there was a time when I loved it. But now, it's rather stupid. It's a bunch of jokes strung together with a string of plot, which wasn't really that cleaver it just lead to jokes, instead of the other way around.

I saw the film about two years or so after it's release when I was in France in 2006. The film was dubbed over in French and I thought it was an okay film. I'll probably see it when it comes out, but then again, I'll need to re-watch the film in English this time.

The first one was completely forgettable to me. Rowan Atkinson is very funny but I felt like that movie lacked ... everything.

I'll definitely judge this movie on its own and wait for a preview.

"Mr. Bean's Holiday" was funny though.

So, you think the jokes should direct the plot?
