Favorite Movie Franchise - Blu-ray Forum

OK, for the most part, franchises are meant as a means to generate many dollars for a studio. They are made not necessarily to make a great film (though Star Wars TESB, Godfather 2 and others break the mold) but to piggy back on a successful venture.

Believe it or not, there are a ton of Franchises out there and before Star Wars, I can't think of one. (Was Rocky first?)

A franchise includes so much more than the pissing match that seems to be the box office numbers. It does include DVD, Blu, merch, collectibles, on demand and so on.

So I ask you this.

What is your favorite "Franchise". Not the most successful, or top grossing, but as a whole kit, what group of films do you like the most.

Crap there is so many so forgive me if I left out yours. I am trying to stay with the top of the top.

And of course I left out Rocky and Rambo. Oops I must subconsciously hate Stallone.

can you technically call 2 films a "franchise"? i'm just curious. i guess you can call anything a franchise, but i kind of always thought of a "franchise" as 4 or more films, since 3 is a trilogy... but anyway, back to the topic.

i haven't seen a lot of ALL of some films of these options, but of the one's i have seen all of...

1. BOURNE trilogy - love all the films. few trilogies have all solid / terrific outings, this is one of the few (imo, of the ones i've seen all of)

although, after finally watching The Terminator - and loving it 0 i'm anxious to see the next 3 films, so this franchise might just be #2 or #3, but for right now #2 belongs to...

2. ALIEN FRANCHISE. i only count this as the first 4 films, i see the "vs" films as something else entirely (something awful...). i know people hate the third film, but i get joy out of it.

Agreed the Vs. films do not count. I also purposely left out National treasure.

See there are so many movies made JUST to make money off of the original story.

I went with Star Wars, although everyone knows what my favorite franchise really is...duh, Halloween! I also love the Rocky and Rambo franchises, as well as the Friday the 13th movies, which also were not on the list...sweeeeet.

best: Godfather (sorry, its got 2 of the best films ever made, I dont care how bad the 3rd is)

Have to say LOTR. I enjoyed all three films as one one more than I did any of the others. But The Terminator Franchise is a very close second.
