United Kingdom How To Train Your Dragon

There's no official release date for this yet but I figured I'd make a thread for it. I saw this recently and loved it, it's certainly one of the better Dreamworks animations, and I know it'll look great on BD.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this one?

Can't wait for this on Blu. Awesome movie. One of the best animated films ever and as good as anything Pixar has put out, better than some of them. In our top 3 or top 5 for sure.

Not seen it yet, but the trailer actually looks decent.

And its by Chris Sanders who did films like Lilo & Stitch so this will be a definite buy from me.

Depending on when it comes out i'll pre-order, but it'll most likely come out in the last 3-4 months of the year in which case i probably wont pre-order as those months are already gonna be pretty expensive

This is the only 5 star review we got in our Movie Rating thread, so this must be something special

It definitely is special! It has a high score on rottentomatoes as well.

The dragon flight scenes are superior to Avatar's, and they should look stunning on blu ray. The beginning is slightly clunky, but the rest of the film is pure gold.

I'm banking on a good release for this, Dreamworks usually have a very good selection of extras as well (better even than Pixar's).

To be honest I usually find the Dreamworks extras to be very limited and usually very kiddy oriented, and not a patch on Pixar's.

I am interested in seeing the film though, I never got around to seeing it at the cinema.

Pre-order now up, with release date of November 15th. And I must say for a film that came out in cinemas in April, this has been a ridiculous length of time to wait for the Blu-ray release, but great film nonetheless and a definite Day 1 purchase for me.

Does anyone here have the new 3D/2D Blu-ray UK combo set (May 2014 release date) with the red border for the first how to train your dragon movie?

I'm desperately trying to find out what special features are on the new set...if any.

Anyone here that can help me out?

Any chance that the new set came with a slipcover?

I'm really struggling to get any information on the above two queries online...

I think the only difference is the distributor change from DreamWorks to Paramount Pictures. The discs should be the same as the previous releases.

But the were two previous releases. The normal 2D edition that had the original special features, and the 2D/3D combo that did not have any special features (not even on the 2D disc). So I'm trying to figure out if this new set includes the 2D set with the original special features or if this is a copy of the original 3D/2D set with even though there was a distributor change.

What makes it more confusing is that amazon lists this new set as being distributed by 20th century fox. The American re-release for 20th century fox had different special features from the original release.

The zavvi steelbook that was released after this 3D/2D combo set is also listed as 20th century fox release but does not include the alternative set of special features from the USA re-release.

The way I'm seeing this is that there is one of three possibilities for this 3D/2D set.

1) The 2D disc has the new set of special features (same as the USA re-release)

2) The 2D disc has the same special features as the original 2D disc (the 2010 release)

3) The 2D disc has no special features (same as the original 3D/2D combo set that was released in 2011)

I don't want to risk importing this set and then I end up with no special features...

Anyone that can help out with some info? I've attempted to get some info via Amazon chat, but the guy I was talking to did not even know what special features are...

Is there a difference in terms of bonus content between the two 2D releases of the first "How To Train Your Dragon" movie on blu-ray?

I don't have either of them.

If I recall correctly, I think there are actually four 2D releases of HTTYD in the UK:

- Original Triple Play (Dreamworks)
- Steelbook (Dreamworks)
- Blu-ray with red border sleeve (Paramount)
- Blu ray with character sleeve (Paramount)

The Dreamworks editions have more special features than either of the Paramount editions.

List of special features for Dreamworks: Here

List of special features for Paramount (from double pack which I think is the same as single release): Here

Edit: I just noticed that the steelbook says and more... instead of giving a full list. From my experience (watched them all), this includes all special features mentioned on the double pack.

I'm about to start watching the movies and TV shows.

I know that the TV shows all take place between the first two movies but where do the specials fall in the timeline?

Which is the best way to watch the franchise - in chronological order or by production order?

All told, by the time How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World nears the end of its Harry Potter-esque closing trajectory, in which Hiccup must learn how to let go, the bittersweet result will have audiences finding it equally hard to say goodbye.
