Default Obvious Question

Hello,

I'm going to ask the obvious question, but, even after checking all the major FAQs, I can't find it answered! If I buy a Blu-ray disc, can my old DVD-player play it? The industry loves to tell that early Blu-ray players will allow "backwards compatability," so I can buy a new player and use my old media. However, nobody has been able to give me a straight answer whether or not some kind of reverse backwards compatability exists! So, can existing DVD players play Blu-ray discs?

Thanks!

Well, for backward compability they mean the other way around -- all Blu-ray players can play existing DVDs.

It's impossible for a DVD player to play Blu-ray discs, because high def media use blue laser technology. Conventional DVD and CD players use red lasers, which was the former generation of optical reading.
