warning about digital copies - Blu-ray Forum

ok so they tell you to back up your files in case your computer crashes but they don't tell you that if your ipod crashes you are still not covered. If you lose files you paid for because THEIR machine stops working shouldn't they make an exception for that? I lost all my digital copies because my ipod decided to crap out on me. I had to restore it to factory settings. I do this all the time I keep my music saved to a DVD for such an occasion but never thought to back up my movies I always assumed you could re-download them.

So fair warning you CAN NOT download your movies a second time even the ones you bought in case you did not know that. I am now anti-digital copy where before I was all for it.

You back your digital music and your photos but not videos?

Even the inserts say it is a one time deal and Apple even recommends backing up purchased items right under their Help files:

Edit: I just re-read the first post and you can't transfer the movies you bought to your restored iPod? That doesn't sound right. I've restored my iPod Classic and my iPod Touch and was able to transfer all of my music and videos without issues.

no if I had thought to put them back onto my PC I probably could have but I forgot to do that. It won't let me re-download them.

And the music, I don't add anything new I have 1 DVD I made a couple years ago there has been 1 new cd I added since then. It was pretty easy to back that up.

but yeah for some reason I didn't take their warning too seriously because you know how so many movie codes were expired I still got to work, I figured it was just in there to cover their assess or something I didn't think they were really that strict about it. *******s. I defended them from day one, boy was I wrong to do that.

This happened to me once, I emailed Apple through the iTunes thing and they put it in my download cue.

this sentence negates any validity your claim once had.

Maybe you should have taken the warning seriously, thought maybe it WASN'T just to cover their asses and assumed that they were really that strict.

You just admitted you made a mistake and turn around and blame Apple? I feel no pity, nor should anyone else.

I keep a file of the movie on my iPod and a file on my MacBook. Just got my Mac's hard drive replaced as the old one quit, good thing my iPod still has Watchmen and The Dark Knight on it.

I'm happy because I was smart and listened to Apple's warning and backed my movies up

So you transfered everything to your ipod and deleted the originals from the your computer? WOW, not too bright are we. Why would you think a code would work more then once? If they did, what would be the point of putting a different code in each movie, if they were all the same, or reusable, you could give it to hundreds of people that could download it for free.

Back up everything and them you have no one to blame except yourself.

Yeah, I keep the originals on my computer. But I accidentally deleted one or two of my originals, and was able to re-download them, to a different computer, because they hadn't expired. I just had to sign into the same iTunes account I used on the other computer. This thread should be retitled "Warning about phatrat1982" and then on the inside say "He doesn't know how to read instructions."

that is crap, I mean about having to back it up, because nobody else can use the code once you redeem it the movie is in my list it shows up as PURCHASED that will not happen on any one else's computer. It was a pain to redeem additional movies once I got a new computer I had to transfer purchases and then add the new ones. It took forever.

So I made a mistake because I never had that problem with anything else before, ok so why wouldn't I just assume it would let me download them when it always has with everything else? I think some of the comments on here are just messed up and purposefully meant to be ignorant.

Anyways I did email them but I am leaving town tomorrow so unless they respond tonight there is no frigging way I can redeem all those movies by tomorrow which really sucks because the whole reason I bought the ipod video was to have movies when I go on long trips.

And to whoever deleted my post when others attacked me first you did not say anything to them why did you delete mine instead of edit or give others a warning? talk about biased and unfair. I would like you to defend your self because I made 2 innocent comments and was called names and attacked! I had every right to respond accordingly others do so in like manner.

well I do everything else, I have 3TB worth of videos and movies already but I thought they ipod stuff was safe, because you just click transfer purchases to back them up to the computer. Anyways if I don't get to re-download all the ones I have I am just gonna rip and encode the movies myself from now on anyways.

Digital downloads are consumer unfriendly. Nothing like a physical disc to keep your collection safe.

Learn to backup. An ipod was never meant to be the sole storage of any digital data.

I have a crap load of "PC" DC... but I hate the fact that they are "locked" for one computer even if you put it on an XHD, u still can't watch it anywhere else. There isn't a way to back up the licenses either on my PC. I just wish I could just "unlocked" them in case my PC ever goes down because if it does, or I get a new PC/laptop, they would be all worthless... :-(

Sorry to sound like a noob... but is there a way to "unlock" them or at least back up the licenses?
