Default Audio/video equipment for a 500sc theater

Good day to all!

I have been task by my boss to come up with a budget estimate for the audio and video equipment to be used for the planned 500 seating capacity theater. I also need some suggestions on what a/v gears should we get for this. I appreciate your suggestions. Thanks

You should probably look into Prefessional theater equipment, which can get quite expensive, the Personal HT equipment may struggle to produce enough power to proper fill a room of 500 people.

look at these sites
http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/cinema-speaker/
http://www.jblpro.com/

There may be others as well.... I don't know that much about setting up and installing a cinema....

Don't reinvent the wheel: Find a company that has done a simular project in your area. Give them a call to start a dialog with someone (anyone) who was involved in the project. Tell them your company is considering doing a project. Offer to buy him or her lunch just to get some ideas to start your companies project.

I've been on both sides of these type lunches and it is beneficial to both parties. The more people you know in your field can only help in the long term.

Excellent advise! Definitely start here.

May I ask the purpose of the cinema (outside of making $)? Is this a completely new endeavor for your boss? I'm intrigued by the bigger cinemas - whether it be professional or at home, so no need to answer if it's too personal, I'm just curious.

I work with a government in my country and the 500 seat theater will be part of the new training center to be built. There will also be several mini theaters to which i may be able handle, but this one is big and i really do not know equipments appropriate for this. The theater will also be used as venue for the different award programs of our government. This will be available for rental.

What an exciting opportunity for you. Like others have said you are likely going to have to look into some professional caliber gear here... like a Christie Digital projectors as an example.

Do you know the size of the room? Seating is one thing, but dimension's would be more helpful for pepole who can answer your questions I'm guessing.

Like the throw distance required for the projector will give you an indication on whether you can go consumer product or not. The lighting in the room may already be determined and if that is the case you could do some lumen calculations to see how much light output your projector will need.

If you know your length/width/height you may be able to do some volume calculations to determine speakers and wattage to drive those speakers to fill that space to a given deciable level.

So there are some things you could do upfront and then if you get some dealer names they can better service you.
