Default Exclusive: Family Guy Takes on Return of the Jedi

from

http://www.tvguide.com/News/Exclusiv...i&profileid=05

The trilogy is now complete. Family Guy's popular series of Star Wars parodies — the Empire Strikes Back installment was the No. 3 best-selling Blu-ray release of 2009 — goes for the intergalactic trifecta with a spoof of Return of The Jedi.

As you can tell by TV Guide Magazine's exclusive first look at the poster art, the still untitled project retains its faithful tone, but you can of course count on a merciless fanboy skewing of the Ewok-centered film. Seth MacFarlane and company are back along with several guest voices including semi-regulars Adam West and Carrie Fisher; Rush Limbaugh (as the Sarlaac pit monster); and Patrick Stewart and Michael Dorn in a Star Trek: The Next Generation riff. The movie goes on sale December 21 on DVD and Blu-ray.

Fans will get a 10-minute taste of the Jedi parody on July 24 at a sure-to-be well attended panel at Comic-Con in San Diego. MacFarlane, Alex Borstein and Seth Green will be on hand that day for wisecracks as well.

Let's hope Fox will put Blue Harvest on Blu.
Now the original title for the Jedi spoof was supposed to be

Family Guy presents Episode VI: The Great Muppet Caper, but Jim Henson productions would not allow the use of the muppet title. Currently it is called
Family Guy presents We Have a Bad Feeling About This.

Seth has the good sense to know many people revile the first three (and I'm willing to bet he does too), and that the Star Wars Geeks that make up his staff would have little interest in working on such a project.

The only reason to do it is to totally rip it to shreds... sorry, I-III fans. The prequels are just not marketable any other way...

Agreed, but as we know in show business 'Never say Never'. Besides with Star Wars done perhaps they will tackle the Star Trek movies........

Hmmm, I'd say all the the DVDs and merchandise the films sell prove otherwise.

Wait, do you work for Seth or something? Or are you just an outside consultant still waiting to be placed on the payroll? Joking.

Agreed, I doubt they'd ever do the prequels.

He will do the prequels, but like Lucas, he will wait 20 years, release the OT as a special edition so everyone can ***** about them, then do the PT.

Wow. Didn't realize it was the #3 highest selling Blu-Ray of 2009. Nice.

And yeah, I hope they do the Prequels at some point also.

Most of the humor in Family Guy comes from the 1970s-1980s... because that is what Seth remembers from being a kid in those years.

I'm roughly the same age as him, and it's amazing how I immediately remember things they pick at, even though I'd completely forgotten about them.

So... long story short... It wouldn't make sense for him to pick on something recent like the Star Wars prequels. The original trilogy makes perfect sense.

Also the Star Trek movies with the original crew make sense...

Picking on Dungeons & Dragons (the RPG, not the movie) makes sense, but not the Lord of the Rings movies.

Some references to current pop culture are bound to happen... but the blatant parody stuff really only happens to stuff from the 70s-80s timeframe if you look at the show.

I'm a couple years older than him, but you're right - there are sooo many references to the late 70s and early 80s pop culture landscape.

I'm always amazed by the jokes they attempt on that show. I remember the Griffins going on a road trip and singing Bette Midler's The Rose in the car. It was a neat gag, and you don't need to know the reference to like the scene. But wow, a forgotten song from 1980? McFarlane's pretty fearless where it comes to referencing that era.
