United Kingdom Space: 1999 The Complete First Series on Blu-ray

Space: 1999: The Ultimate Space 1999 Collection Blu-ray 18 disc 28 march, 2022

Space: 1999: The Complete First Series Blu-ray

Does anybody know if Network will be releasing their special edition restoration of season 1? I had read that these were mastered to HD during the restorations (same as The Prisoner) and that they were anticipating releasing them in HD.

The first season has been remastered in HD in 2004 from the 35 mm original material, and some episodes have been broadcast on ITV-HD in 2006. The 2005 Network Video DVD set is supposedly based on this HD master, but I find it generally inferior to the Carlton release for many reasons. See those comparisons for yourself.

Carlton DVD vs. Network DVD
http://www.space1999.net/catacombs/m...mvdvduk2a.html

At first glance, colours seem much warmer and "natural" in the Network version, but the PQ problems are immediately obvious. The colour balance borders on the red side and all nuances of red, yellow and pink have turned into bright orange. As well, contrast has been set on maximum and many outdoor details have disappeared in what looks like a massive bloom shader. Just look at the fifth screenshot comparison ("series created by") to have an idea of the overall PQ damage in the Network version. While the Carlton version appears a tad blueish, its colour balance is more solid and satisfying.

Network DVD vs. ITV-HD broadcast

Those screenshot comparisons from the title sequence and the two episodes "War Games" and "Black Sun" speak for themselves. The new HD master is vastly superior to the Network version. If a BD set is to be ever released, I expect it to look even better than that broadcast version (as long as the original 4:3 ratio is respected).

Just to let you know, neither of those links work. Is there any way you could post the pics directly on the thread?

There are too many screenshots for me to post them here.

Besides, the links work perfectly fine. Try replacing http://space1999 with http://www.space1999, or copy and paste the links in another window (might be a hotlink protection problem).

the UK set is announced with 8 discs against 6 discs for the Us set. And the series will be in 4:3 aspect ratio.

Wow, Robin of Sherwood is getting a Blu-ray release as well. I remember watching that as a kid, wonder if it still holds up.

So, will we get both the second season set and a complete series box set of both seasons later this year? Not sure I want to buy the first season only to have a complete series set being released with some exclusive content in just a few months.

You can never be 100% sure but I very much doubt there would be a combo set with both seasons and if there ever is I would expect it further down the line after Year 2 has been out for a while but it's not something they've done before with tv on bluray

The exclusive content boat has already sailed - Destination: Moonbase Alpha was exclusive to the limited edition of Bringers of Wonder, now OOP.

I think he's referring to exclusive Year One content that's not on the current set

I read it as exclusive box content in general, which some companies annoyingly do with regularity. Network aren't normally one of them.

They were doing a Callan complete box set with a new documentary I believe a few years back but that got shelved when people got quite vocally angry about that.

But I guess that's just british for the complete season set.

Hello
I don't know if this was mentioned before I just bought the complete series on blu ray and it looks it's missing a lot of extras for the individual season releases

Hmm. Looking at the product descriptions on Network's site you seem to be correct.
Also the complete series set is listed as consisting of 10 discs while the series 1 and series 2 sets are 7 and 6 discs respectively.

Complete series: https://networkonair.com/all-product...eries-blu-ray-
Series 1: https://networkonair.com/drama/1213-...ies-1-blu-ray-
Series 2: https://networkonair.com/all-product...ies-2-blu-ray-

Good to know. I had considered buying the complete series set because it was cheaper, but I might reconsider that now.

Yes I noticed this last year. I had already bought the 1st series then saw the complete set cheap. It was cheaper than buying series 2 on it's own. On receiving I discovered why.

That reminds me I can't remember if I've bought series 2 or not yet......
