As per thread title.
Off the top of my head:
Are there any good ones out there that are worth listening to? I'm thinking of getting Blu-rays for their commentary tracks. ![]() |

Another vote for Sunshine here. Both tracks are superb, but Prof Brian Cox's is just fascinating. It is basically a science lecture but anyone who has seen (or read) any of lectures - in particular the excellent BBC show "Wonders of the Solar System" - will know it's nothing like what you had at school. Excellent stuff.

Lot of my favorites are mentioned already, but I didn't see my all time favorite one.
Seven Samurai - it's old but very informative. Actually made me really appreciate how much thought goes into filming. Made me see the film differently and made Akira Kurosawa as my favorite director of all time. |

I agree with you 100%, and the commentor's name is Michael Jeck if anybody is wondering. I've enjoyed Guillermo Del Torro's commentaries on his movies Pan Labyrinth & Mimic. That said, even though some of his films are classics, I find Ridley Scott's commentaries rather dull. Last edited by silverlakephil; 06-18-2012 at 08:54 PM. |

If i've bumped the wrong thread i apologize. I was a good boy and used the search function.
My favorite has to be "Used Cars" with Zemeckis,Gale and Russell. Recklessly funny and extremely insightful at the same time. Lots of mention for "Tropic Thunder" and for good reason. Hilarious. "Airplane" with producer Jon Davison and Writers/Directors Jim Abrahams, Jerry and David Zucker is great. Some of my other favorites for content would be "Black Hawk Down" with the servicemen who were there. Robert Redford's commentary on "All the President's Men" is a standout. |

I love McTiernan’s commentaries, especially his one for Die Hard, I’ve listened to it several times. He’s very engaging even though he sounds like he’s been shot with horse tranquilliser.
Worst commentaries are from total genius Rob Reiner. He even states that he won’t reveal his tricks because it spoils the illusion of film - defeating the whole point of a director’s commentary. Instead he’s left saying ‘Tom Cruise was the best actor I ever worked with’ and other platitudes. |
