Default Has anyone picked up Tiger Woods 08?

If you have what do you think?

It looks good and I like the possibility of some of the features I've heard about, like confidence and only getting one chance with the line to the cup when putting. Also the create a player face technology. But is it implemented well enough to pay full retail?

has anyone ever noticed that when you swing the club that it's different between xbox and ps? maybe its just me but the xbox version seems more forgiveing if you don't pull the stick back and move it forward perfectly. i can hit it straight everytime on xbox and ps version always gives me trouble.

I don't have 07 for ps3 so I can't compare it to that. So far the gameface feature has not worked because EA's servers are all screwed up so I can't comment on that yet. The game feels a tad sluggish in the menus and when zooming in to see where your shot should go. If you've played NCAA Football 08 for ps3 you'll know what I mean. I haven't played any pga tour tournaments yet because my created golfer's stats are still pretty weak. I can't comment on any of the online features yet because of EA's server problems. I'll definately be putting some time into this game throughout the week and I'll comment more after more quality playing time.

In response to the difference between xbox and PS3, I think that might be due to the fact that the PS3 analog stick is more sensitive and offers a greater range of motion so there is more room for error (read 'takes more skill). As mentioned earlier, the servers have been overwhelmed so I have only been able to get the front view for the gamerface to work but its a pretty cool feature. The load times are a tad slow for the menus and between holes. I don't think there is a lag when zooming. Mine has locked up twice but I'm pretty sure it's because I had been playing for about 8 hours straight. Overall, the game is great. The graphics are nice, the gameplay is to be expected from Tiger, customization is unmatched, same pro players as last year, but there are a ton of courses this year. There are a lot of online options but I haven't tried any yet. Once you get your player's rating up the game gets a lot easier.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. And as for the EA servers being overwhelmed....this can not be over-stated. It has been difficult at best to get the photo game face feature to work properly. Once you get it uploaded to the site and get yourself into the game, however, it was worth the time. It looks just like me!

My bro-in-law has it for his 360 and it is the most unforgiving Tiger I have played yet. On stroke play I shot a 93! That's what I shoot in real life!

His was freezing a lot, and so I warned him about the "red ring of death!"

I guess you can say 08 is more realistic, but I had to play 07 when I got home to make sure it was just 08 being somewhat harder.

It is an excellent game. Just don't be a little panzy like my brother and change your swing to the three click system.

That's the whole point of sports games - the reality of the moment. If you swing the club wrong in real life - you get what you get baby.

I like the fact if you are inconsistant with the joystick movement you get shafted - nice.

Also, the one-chance putt line-up is a fantastic idea. People take way too much time when you're playing head to head online - this should even things out a bit. Be skilled or get killed.

I noticed the same thing but I found something that works for me about 90% of the time. Instead of using your thumb to push the left analogue stick, grip it using your thumb and index finger, like you're pinching it. Use this grip to pull back and then push forward. Most of the time I get a perfectly straight shot.

I refuse to buy sports games by EA if I can possibly help it. Their setup is the biggest scam since ink cartridges and insurance. They basically sell us the same game, year after year, always at full retail. So much of the 'additional content' they provide could be easily accomodated by patches etc. Even if they charged 9.99 or something for these, and just released new games every 3-4 years(when changes to graphics etc. would be noticeable), this would be far preferable to the huge con game that they pull on us now.

Default Avoid!!!

i played this game and it was definitely not worth buying. GAMESPOT, who gave TW '07 an 8.2 out of 10, gave TW '08 a dismal 7.0, here's a quote:

And that's the big problem with Tiger Woods 08; it feels like a good idea that wasn't seen through to completion. There's too much here that simply doesn't work, particularly in the Xbox 360 version. The 360 crashes in the same place during the Tiger Challenge, making it impossible to finish, and you can't upload highlights to the EA server. Both the PS3 and 360 versions have periodic lag, glitches, and freezing issues when played online; the game face upload site doesn't work; and the single-player suffers from glitches like golfers vanishing, taking drops when they weren't supposed to, and a way-too-sensitive analog swing.

I'm tempted to buy it, but I think only because I want to try out the photo/character build thing. I have TW 2007 and had fun with it, but barely touch it now with Warhawk.

Hmm. I wonder if the trade in for Resistance and TW 2007 would be enough to cover the cost of TW 2008.

Can you transfer your profile from 07 to O8 TW?
I really don't want to start over trying to build my attributes back up again.
Thanks

Bought it 2 w/e's ago.

Played it for the first time last night.

I was almost late for work this morning because I was up until the early hours hacking away.

I'm impressed by this game and can't wait to get MY SKILLS levels up and running to at least pro level. For now I am past rookie ratings on all MS levels.

I find consistently driving the ball and putting to be the most challenging but isn't that just like real golf? Sweet.

My approach game is pretty good. The approach circle area is already much smaller as MY SKILLS improve.

I suggest anyone on the fence can BUY NOW!

Here's a question. If I have 07, what's new in 08 that would make me break down and get it?

I'm not sure if this will swing your thoughts but I would think you would have heard about the following new items:

For the first time ever, find out who truly is the world's greatest golfer. In Tiger Woods PGA TourŪ 08, all of your golf game is recorded: from the first tee box in Play Now mode, to your final putt in a FedExCup tournament. Post your most amazing--and unthinkable--performances on EA SPORTS GamerNet, a revolutionary interactive gaming hub that hosts user-created content online. Photo Game Face lets you use photos of your face to create an ultra-realistic likeness of yourself in the game.

A Shot of Confidence

All-new Shot Confidence tracks your performance on every hole, round, and golf course. Based on key factors, including club selection, hole, lie, and more, dig into past performances with the Confidence Meter to identify strengths and weaknesses before every shot.

*The Most Golf Courses Ever

Experience the all-new FedExCup championship format by playing a dream round of golf at Westchester Country Club, TPC Boston, Cog Hill, and East Lake.

*I would think this is the most important thing for someone who owns prior versions.

You won't be upset you upgraded to the new year version.
