Australia The Thin Red Line (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray] (1998)

Hi guys,

any1 in the loop on the Region B release for this movie - The Thin Red Line (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray] (1998)? I use PS3 for my movies/blu-rays.

ive contacted Criterion, however they just punted me off saying they didnt have the rights outside of good ole US of A, and mentioned 20th Century Fox probably would be the distributor. So far that is where the trail has gone cold for my research.

any1 know anything?

cheers

Unfortunately Criterion has never released (and probably never will) their BD in region B. I owned a few myself and purchased a region free BD player specifically for that reason.

And I am also anticipating The Thin Red Line

Criterion did have deals for their DVD releases in some countries though... here in Australia, Aztec & Shock released a few Criterion DVD's (Namely Walkabout, Clerks & Chasing Amy). It is highly unlikely that we will see any Criterion discs now as the rights to the films they release are held by different distributors.

Can I ask a few questions:
1. what brand region-free BD player did you buy?
2. where did you buy it from?
3. how much did you pay?
4. are you located in Australia?

I came close to getting my Panasonic player modified to be region-free, but the price held me back a bit (close to AUD$200). I wanted to know if it would just be cheaper or easier to buy a region-free player, so any advice would be welcome.
The list of locked Region-A discs keeps getting bigger...

You can pick up a Kogan player for around $150, alternatively JBHIFI are selling a Soniq BD Player for $99. Neither of these are technically "Region Free" as that is actually illegal. They are however, able to be set to a specfic region using a remote control code, but only whilst the unit is on (In other words as soon as you turn the unit off, it reverts back to Region B Oddly, the Kogan is Region Free for DVD (no code required)

I own a Pioneer BDP-LX52, professionally multi-region chipped by Gatti Audio

The LX52 costs about $800 last time I checked, my one was $700 (ex-model)

I am in Melbourne btw.
