I was just looking at the review for Videodrome as I'm thinking about buying it, and I noticed this in the conclusion:

I encourage those of you who will be seeing Videodrome for the first time to listen to the entire audio commentary featuring David Cronenberg and Mark Irwin

I'm sure the commentary is great, but I would never recommend anyone viewing a movie for the first time to have the commentary track on, especially a movie like this.

He probably means after your first viewing, for an explanation. Assuming the film leaves some dumbfounded and curious.

Because of the recent news of some Criterion blu-ray's having bronzing issues, I've been going through my discs this last week. None look bronze, but Videodrome locks up at the 1 hour 14 minute mark. It just freezed. Using an Oppo BDP105. The movie played fine in the past. Anyone else have problems with this disc?

I didn't watch the whole thing, but I just threw it in my Oppo BDP93 and it appears to be fine. I watched around 5 to 10 minutes at the 1 hour 14 minute mark, but I'm guessing any problems due to bronzing would be variable.

Can you see if the IFPI codes match what we found in the big Defective Criterion BDs thread?

Wow, if this is true.

I hope that it isn't. And I don't think that it is either. You haven't seen any evidence of bronzing plus you're the only one to have this problem, so I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and say that it's a one time freak occurrance. But I'm sorry that your disc is faulty.

I watched my copy around a month ago with no issues. Just inspected my copy and see no signs of bronzing. My IFPI Mould code is: OWXM. Also, I just watched my copy from the 1 hour 13 minute mark to 1 hour 15 minute mark with no issues. Finally, I chapter skipped through the entire film with no freezing or skipping with the beginning of each chapter.
