Default Anima Suggestions

My 8-year old daughter has become a big fan of anime, in specific the works of Studio Ghibli (Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, The Cat Returns, Ponyo, etc.) I've enjoyed watching these with her as well. The problem now is that we have watched and purchased almost all of the Studio Ghibli collection and I'm looking for suggestions outside of this studio. I know anime can go from pretty family friendly to nothing I would want my daughter to see at her current age. Any suggestions (along the lines of the movies mentioned above) would be appreciated, they would need to be dubbed because she is still a little to young to follow along with subtitles. Thanks.

It's anime, you should be fine with stuff like Pokemon and Powerpuff Girls.

That's actually a fantastic suggestion for an 8 year old girl, can't believe I forgot it. Powerpuff Girls and Sailor Moon will do great for her, as will Pokemon and Digimon if you can find it.

But bet you still haven't seen The Castle of Cagliostro...
(Namely, due to its being the one pre-Ghibli Miyazaki movie that didn't qualify for the Disney deal.)

Back when Netflix, ahem, USED to have fan Top Ten lists, I had a special link-reference page of family/newbie friendly recommendations for first-time anime fans without scaring them into the hills. (Yes, we're looking at you, Next Person To Recommend Theatrical Movies... )

But since they don't have those pages anymore, I'll just have to recite the age-appropriate links from memory:
- Azumanga Daioh (or, "What if Charles Schulz wrote an anime, and turned the Peanuts gang into Tokyo high-school girls?")
- Kodocha (Beware that the main heroine should ever become a role model)
- Kamichu! (or "Somebody's been watching a lot of Spirited Away...")
- Princess Tutu (Don't let the slippers fool you, this one ain't Angelina Ballerina)
- Kaleido Star (If you've ever dreamed about Cirque du Soleil...the Japanese were just as puzzled by it, too. )
- Sailor Moon R Movie (May have to search Amazon or Tube, but just think of a generation growing up without it )
- Original Dirty Pair (Probably for older kids, but if you think girls wouldn't like this, take a look...Think "Totally Spies" with more firepower. )
- Sgt. Frog (but make sure she learns to read subtitles soon, as the Cartoon Network-wannabe English dub is ten levels of obnoxious)

While the original "my First" Dragon Ball was made with lil' kids in mind.

Believe it or not my daughter and I have actually watched Castle of Cagliostro. I'm actually a big fan of this movie (did not know of all of the later Ghibli movies until the recent release of Ponyo on Bluray though). I've been a big fan of this movie going back to the 80's due to the laser disc game Cliff Hanger. COC and Mystery of Mamo make up the content of the game which I'm sure you are aware of. I need to get more of the Lupin III films but I think I'll leave my daughter out for those. Thanks for the suggestions.

(For the age group, forgot to mention Petite Princess Yucie, often overlooked because it sounds too cute. That's because it IS cute...What's wrong with that? )

The game Cliff Hanger if you are not familiar with it.
