The updated Dallas pilot, from Cane creator Cynthia Cidre and Warner Horizon, centers on the offspring of bitter rivals and brothers J.R. (Hagman) and Bobby Ewing (Duffy) -- J.R.'s son, John Ross (Henderson) and Bobby and Pam Ewing's adopted son, Christopher -- who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork itself weighs in the balance. Henderson joins Jordana Brewster, who was recently cast as Elena, the gorgeous daughter of the ranch's cook who is locked into a love triangle with Christopher and John. Michael M. Robin (The Closer) is set to direct and executive produce for the pilot.

Hagman gained worldwide fame for his portrayal of oil baron J.R. Ewing on the original soap, which ran from 1978 to 1991. Following months of negotiations over salary demands, Hagman has finally signed on for the Dallas reboot after verbally committing to the project last week. Gray and Duffy, who came on board late last year, played J.R.’s wife, Sue Ellen Ewing, and J.R.’s younger brother Bobby, respectively, in the original Dallas.

The new Dallas came close to going without a present-day J.R. With Hagman holding out for money, Cidre had written an alternative pilot script in which Hagman’s J.R. is only represented through flashbacks from the original series. Luckily, the producers didn't have to use it after an agreement with Hagman was finally reached.

Plans are afoot to bring Dallas back to the television screen - with Larry Hagman, now 79, playing his original role.
And if producers get their way, we'll get a chance to see whether age has softened that wicked backstabbing JR Ewing.

I've seen Hagman on the featurettes for last year's Jeannie boxsets, and...he's softened a bit. (Unless they decide to write in that JR had a stroke--Hagman's still sharp, but delivery isn't what it used to be when pushing 80.)

I would suspect this to be fake news, but given Turner, all bets of reason and logic are off.

The days of wealthy family type dramas are over it seems. Back in the day, shows like Dynasty, Falcon Crest, The Colbys, and Dallas were so addictive, and they had huge stars - Charleton Heston, Barbara Stynweck, John Forsythe, and who could forget Lynda Evans, and Joan Collins, the shows were made so glamorous back then.

I don't think shows like this would make it today. The only family type drama that I can think of that's successful in recent years is Brothers & Sisters, but totally different type of show.

Oh God damn it!! They better not cast Metcalf, he's a horrendous actor and I absolutely loathe everything he's ever done. His casting will ruin this for me.

Metcalfe currently is co-starring on NBC’s freshman drama Chase, which has been pulled off the schedule and is not expected to return next season.

The original ended before I was born, so I have vague memories of repeats my grandma watched when I was real young. Outside of the who shot JR story line I have no memories of any story lines, so I don't mind them relaunching it.

Housewives Vet Is Bobby's Wife

Brenda Strong appears to have a Wisteria Lane-South Fork commute ahead of her, having been cast on TNT’s Dallas.

The alumna of ABC’s yet-to-be-renewed Desperate Housewives (where she narrates as the late Mary Alice Young) has landed the role of Bobby Ewing’s new wife, Ann, TVLine has learned.

During the original Dallas series’ run, Bobby (played by Patrick Duffy) went through two marriages — first to Pam, and later to April Stevens (though that union got snuffed on the honeymoon, when the bride was killed).

J.R.’s younger brother also had relationships here and there with Jenna Wade and, to an extent, Sue Ellen Ewing (Linda Gray).

Duffy, Gray and Larry Hagman (J.R.) are all set to reprise their roles on TNT’s continuation of the Ewing saga, which also stars two other Housewives alums — Jesse Metcalfe (as Bobby and Pam’s son, Chris) and Josh Henderson (as J.R.’s son John Ross) — and Jordana Brewster (as a ranch cook’s daughter caught in a triangle with the aforementioned lads).

Dallas Welcomes Charlene Tilton and Steve Kanaly Back To Southfork

There's a special occasion taking place down at the Southfork Ranch on TNT's new Dallas pilot, and what would a Ewing gathering be without Lucy Ewing (Charlene Tilton) and Ray Krebbs (Steve Kanaly)?

TNT confirms to me exclusively that the two beloved TV vets will be joining Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray for this Ewing family reunion, set to shoot in Texas in late April or early May.

On the original series, Charlene recurred as J.R. Ewing's promiscuous niece from 1978-90, while Steve's ranch hand character (who was revealed to be J.R.'s half brother) appeared from 1978-1991. Steve last played Ray in the 1998 Dallas reunion movie, War of the Ewings.

So why is J.R. (Larry Hagman, who will appear in the pilot) not listed as attending this family function? Well, that we'll have to wait and see when and if TNT orders Dallas to series. (Please TNT, order Dallas to series!)

'Dallas' reboot 'still under consideration'

TNT has confirmed that its reboot of Dallas could still be picked up to series.

The project was absent from the cable channel's official fall schedule, which was confirmed earlier this week.

However, a spokeswoman for the network has since announced that TNT executives will make a final decision on the show's future in the next few weeks, after viewing the completed pilot episode.

The show, which will feature original Dallas stars Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Larry Hagman, is not expected to premiere before 2012 if it receives a full series commission.

Brenda Strong, Jesse Metcalfe, Julie Gonzalo, Josh Henderson and Jordana Brewster will also appear in the reboot.

Filming on the pilot episode, which took place at Southfork Ranch in Collin County, Texas, wrapped last Friday.

If anything kills this it would be Metcalfe. I didn't pay attention to the TNT announcement cause quite frankly I forgot about this show already, lol. Doesn't matter to me if it gets picked up as long as Metcalfe is part of it I won't watch. He makes my brain hurt.

Dallas Alum Charlene Tilton: TNT Reboot Looks 'Fabulous,' But 'They've Gotta Bring Lucy Back!'

Dallas alumna Charlene Tilton is singing the praises of TNT’s upcoming reboot of the long-running primetime sudser, yet thinks it needs just a little something — namely her troublemaking tart, Lucy.

“I read the script for the first episode and it is absolutely wonderful,” Tilton told TVLine at the annual Night of 100 Stars Oscars viewing party. “It’s going to be fabulous.”

In addition to a “next generation” cast headed by Desperate Housewives alum Josh Henderson (playing J.R.s son, John Ross), Chase‘s Jesse Metcalfe (as Bobby and Pam’s son, Christopher) and Jordana Brewster (as a ranch cook’s daughter), original Dallas stars Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray are set to reprise their roles of J.R., Bobby and Sue Ellen, respectively — and “theyre going to be amazing,” Tilton promises. Still, as fans of the original series know, a little Lucy could go a long way.

“They’ve gotta bring me back!” Tilton cheers. And she may know just the reason why. Based on the actress’ recollection, when Lucy was last seen, she had moved to Europe while still in possession of a 25 percent stake in Ewing Oil. So if there’s any major developments with or fights over the family business, Tilton suggests, “They’d have to have her come and vote.” (TVLine reader DallasFan, however, suggests that after Tilton/Lucy bid Dallas adieu, Bobby ultimately wound up with sole ownership of Ewing Oil.)

While Tilton has not gotten a call from the producers of the new Dallas, she at least is feeling Lucy love from fans. “People have sent me Internet petitions to bring her back,” she shares with a wide smile, “and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, thank you!’”

The re invigoration of the series is incredible, but then again the original was outstanding as well. They said in the beginning Hagman only filmed 2 full episodes of this season before he passed so whatever he filmed they did a good job of spreading out and obviously did some nice rewriting due to his passing. I so thought Bobby was going to don the hat at the end of the episode Monday and I thought honestly that would have been very fitting. It seems to me Bobby is about to go through a personality change and become what JR was, as by the end of the episode you saw him working with who he needed to, to keep JR's plan alive. It is going to be very interesting to see how they keep the series alive as JR was the show.

I thought the exact same thing about Bobby at the end! I thought for sure he was going to put on the hat and pick up J.R.'s mantle. Who knows, maybe he still will. I'm really looking forward to seeing it all play out.

Me as well man. I think the Emma storyline is gonna get really twisted pretty soon. And somehow I think they are going to link JR's death to it.
