To Kill a Mockingbird Blu-ray Review

To Kill a Mockingbird Commemorative Edition Blu-ray

Release news https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=7805 pre-order

Since a number of threads have been started on other titles mentioned by Blu-ray.com as coming from Universal...

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=5266

...I thought I would start one on the film I think is the best of the fifteen titles..."To Kill A Mockingbird."

Funny enough, last weekend I was watching the film again and thought to myself that it should be on Blu.

This is truly a great film, and Gregory Peck is absolutely wonderful.

I am very excited for this release. To Kill a Mockingbird remains one of the only movies I truely love. I hope that they dig all sorts of special features out for this one because there is so much to learn about how they filmed the movie.

Count me in! I'm still gonna keep my Legacy Edition because of the awesome packaing and extras (including 11 mini poster replicas), some of which may not be ported to the blu. Gregory Peck was such a class act, I miss him. Plus this was Robert Duvall's debut film, he still acting today and lives in my state of Virginia! I also believe Harper Lee is still alive as well.

Truly one of the best performances by an actor... Gregory Peck. This film is excellent...... and worth the $$ just to watch Mr Peck in Hi Def. A must own for any serious Blu Ray collection.. Plus one of the best music scores ever. First class movie.

Harper Lee is living in Alabama.

Lee said of the 1962 Academy Award-winning screenplay adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird by Horton Foote: "I think it is one of the best translations of a book to film ever made". She also became a friend of Gregory Peck, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Atticus Finch, the father of the novel's narrator, Scout. She remains close to the actor's family. Peck's grandson, Harper Peck Voll, is named after her.

I was surprised to learn in 2009, when I heard a NPR show with the author (Kerry Madden) that wrote a book about Harper Lee, that Lee, who lived in Monroeville, Alabama, was a neighbor and friend of Truman Capote, who was staying with relatives there. And that Harper Lee, wrote the character Dill being based on Capote.

Capote was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the son of 17-year-old Lillie Mae Faulk and salesman Archulus Persons. His parents divorced when he was four, and he was sent to Monroeville, Alabama, where, for the following four to five years, he was raised by his mother's relatives.

Capote and his Monroeville neighbor, Harper Lee, remained lifelong friends. He based the character of Idabel in Other Voices, Other Rooms on her, and was in turn the inspiration for the character Dill Harris in Lee's 1960 bestselling, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
Capote once acknowledged this: "Mr. and Mrs. Lee, Harper Lee's mother and father, lived very near. Harper Lee was my best friend. Did you ever read her book, To Kill a Mockingbird? I'm a character in that book, which takes place in the same small town in Alabama where we lived. Her father was a lawyer, and she and I used to go to trials all the time as children. We went to the trials instead of going to the movies."
Later, Harper Lee was Capote's crucial research partner for In Cold Blood.

Yeah, Capote is all about them during the "In Cold Blood" time period.

So the Commemorative Limited Edition is only a digibook? That's the only difference? That seems a bit dumb. Although I'll probably get it considering how much I don't want my copy to be on of those generic 100th Anniversery slip covers.

Depending upon my mood, when people ask me to name my favorite film, I will say "Lawrence of Arabia," "The Godfather," or "To Kill a Mockingbird." The one thing each of these films have in common: They are flawless.

One of the scenes that always gets to me is when Scout asks Jem what their mother was like and Atticus is sitting on the porch quietly listening to their conversation—their mother's absence is felt so strongly by the characters and the audience. The chemistry between Gregory Peck (Atticus) and Mary Badham (Scout) is so real that their scenes are moving without being manipulative. There is so much to say about this delicate film and I cannot wait to own it on Blu-ray.

Smile A gift for my mom.

I'll get a copy for my mom. She loves the movie, although she's weird she doesn't really rewatch her favorite movies much. We're complete opposites.

I think I'll stick with the Amaray, and I love Digibooks.

I don't care one way or another about digibooks. I do like the inserted press material they include with the sets as I hate how the studios overtime gave up on booklets inside of releases. But I'm perfectly fine with the regular edition as long as it has the same set of features included.

I'm going for the Digibook, but I'm ordering the UK Digibook (region free) but $8 USD shipped LESS!!

BTW there is NO difference in the 2 releases (Digibook v Amaray, other than the book that comes with the Digibook)

Nice, looks like the UK Digibook comes out to just under $20. Kinda sucks that it won't be released until February 13th, but I'm sure that many people won't mind waiting for this one.

I ordered the standard blu, but I'm gonna debate it over the next few days and make my final decision then.

If I get it upon its initial release week, I'll be getting the standard Blu. I never read the Digibooks that I have and I like the cover better on the standard edition. Plus there's no additional material on the disc for the digibook version.
