Default Cracked Discs (center area)

Hey everyone,

Is this common with PS3 games? Just opened Final Fantasy XIII today to play and it wouldn't work. Couldn't figure it out and looked and there is a crack right in the center ring. No scratches on the disc since I've never used it but...I've never had this happen before. I was looking forward to playing this game.

Brand new? I'd exchange it, the disc might have been damaged somehow.

Where did the disc come from? Mail rental like Gamefly?

Sounds like it was ripped out of the case. My brother brock a DVD in half being too agressive taking it out of the case.

I had that problem with InFamous. The disc was fine to start with but the action of taking out and putting back in the case caused it to crack (almost all the way across the disc). I had it replaced and the next one started doing it also but I noticed before any real damage was done. My theory is it's the type of case the disc is in. The clear ones are fine, but the silver ones over here used for 'Platinum' releases (best of) have a very violent snap action and this is what has caused the damage. I now trim the fixing in these types of cases with a knife so I can avoid any further damage to other discs.

Man, this sucks!

Called Best Buy and they told me they don't do trade-ins for games and it would have to be sent to the company which will send me a coupon for the price I paid for the game (which was purchased on sale) and she said because it was on sale, I'm literally going to have to pay more for the game this time around.

Forget that.

I then contacted Square Enix and hoping for better news. They said they don't have a return disc program but if I return everything with my receipt, they will then determine if I will get a replacement.

I've been reading online and others said that cracks in the center are determined by video game companies as user negligence (taking the disc out wrong) and thus, no replacement disc is given and game is returned back.

And what upsets me the most...I didn't have a freakin' chance to play this game at all. (I've played a friend's game just for a half hour, earlier this year and thus the 1% on my trophies list)

Yeah that sucks man. But that's the way BB is with their return policy since they offer those optional protection plans which they try to sell you before they ring you up on pretty anything you buy from them.
